This restaurant is part of a bigger Schönmatt farm. Very quiet and nice delightful atmosphere, great countryside views. Stopped by only for a drink and by chance, therefore I won’t provide any rating on the food. Having checked the menu through (while walking around the restaurant), it was interesting and comprised of seasonal and locally-sourced menu highlights. The staff is not the most attentive but totally fine for this type of family business.

This is a typical Swiss country side restaurant. They serve local dishes with ingredients coming from the area. We stopped for a coffee which was average, but we loved the mandarin tiramisu. It has also a small terrace with a nice view to the hills. A few parking places are available on site

Walked into this place today to see if it was still serving food the smell was amazing and luckily it was serving food still as I ate probably the best meal I've had in Basel since arriving just on a year ago I'll definitely be back for more.

Am 19.Okt.2014 waren wir eine Zehnergruppe Motorradfahrer , zum Mittagessen bei der Schönmatt. Ich hatte einen Tisch in der Garten Wirtschaft reserviert und dies hat auch bestens geklappt. Trotz Hochbetrieb an diesem Sonntag mit herrlichem Wetter .... Freundliche und den Umständen entsprechende prompte Bedienung. ...das Essen war gut . Wir empfehlen dieses Landgasthaus gerne weiter vorallem den Motorradfahrer. ..gut und spannend zu erreichen.... am besten von Dornach via Gempen.... den Gempenturm können wir wegen der Aussicht empfehlen. .. nicht das Restaurant. ... sehr schlecht Organisiert sehr lange Wartezeiten zu dem noch hohen Preis... daher ist man bei der Schönmatt besser bedient. Was auch noch zu erwähnen wäre.... die Schönmatt hat noch einen Umfangreichen Hofladen auch am Sonntag geöffnet. ... wir werden da wiedermal...
