Le Sommet — Restaurant in Gruyères

Always a pleasure to go to the top of le Moléson. Not only because of the magnificent view over French speaking Switzerland. Expect to see Lac Léman, Lac de Neuchâtel, Lac de Gruyère and numerous mountain peaks. Expect an equally amazing sun rise or sunset if you decide to go early in the morning or if you decide to stay late in the evening. That's right, Moléson is one of the places where lifts stay open in the evening on certain days in the week. Le Sommet restaurant itself has a beautiful terrace (and a second terrace for pic-nic). This is indeed a restaurant with a view. Very accessible via car and just 5km ahead of Gruyère. You can park your car just next to the funiculaire station. The parking is free. SBB discounts don't work here but the tickets are discounted for senior citizens and children. The train takes you to a cable car, which takes you to the restaurant. The restaurant is self serve mostly with fondue cheese burger and rosti as highlight. Above the restaurant of you climb two flights of stairs there is a beautiful panaromic view of switzerland with main cities and mountain peaks labeled. There is nothing else on top of the mountain,so this is the only choice for a coffee or food. I understand these prices, but this could be a jewel on the mountain,attract people only for it. The food was good and traditional, but with a lot of fat, and basic.
