Hotel Restaurant Bären — Restaurant in Gsteig

We stayed here for one night on our APR trek. The hotel is closed on Mondays but they still allowed us to stay! We phoned the owner on arrival, sat in the pleasant garden for a little while until she arrived and let us in. The room was lovely, and the owners has bought us some food for our evening meal - we had requested this. We had no balcony and the bathroom was a littel dated, there is also no TV which shouldnt really be an issue on holilday. Later we spent more time with the owners and were shown around with a little bit of the history of this fantastic building which was a nice touch. We were the only guests and as such were treated very well and breakfast was one of the best we had the whole trip - it was the most either of us ate in 2 weeks. The WiFi connection was fast and there is a little shop 2 minutes away selling basic gorceries. ...

The Bären is on top form :)||The food was excellent, the service likewise. The traditional Swiss interior feels warm and authentic. The menu is a great mixture of Swiss mountain standards and more contemporary classics. We were four people including two kids. Everything we ordered was superb, really delicious and ample portions. I had the burger and it was the best I can remember being served for years. The sticky toffee pudding was rich, tasty and very satisfying.|Our waiter was attentive, thoughtful and charming. |We have been visiting the Bären for at least 10 years. Not only was this the best meal that I can remember having there, the experience rivals anything you could expect in any restaurant in the valley.||So glad to see Gsteig's main restaurant in such good form.
