I have a friend who lives in Habkern, who recommended Gasthof Baeren. I stayed for a week in early April. The single room 102 was very comfortable, small but had everything I needed. Beyond the window of the room is a small terrace with sofa and chairs, it has a delightful outlook over the village, church and mountain - I used this daily and had the terrace to myself. |Plenty of choice for breakfast - perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs, delicious bread (selection changed daily) and excellent coffee. I was amazed at the many flavours of yoghurts! My friend came to join me to eat in the restaurant in the evenings. Quality of food, variety in all courses, using local produce where possible, is first class! ||As part of my booking I was given a bus pass, this allows travel on the postbus up and down to Interlaken and selected destinations within a certain zone. Also allows travel on the train between Interlaken West and Ost. I see that another reviewer has commented that the bus stops at 19:00 - it may be a newly introduced service, but there is a late bus which leaves Interlaken West Bahnhof at 22:08, giving locals and visitors alike the opportunity to go down to Interlaken in the evenings. Particularly useful on the nights that the Baeren restaurant is closed. ||I LOVED the rocking chair in the room - fell asleep reading in it a couple of nights! Carina and Christian are charming hosts. Carina's English is very good and most staff speak a little English. I had a wonderful week, perfect. Now planning my visit...
Read moreStayed here in late April 2024 for 2 nights, the beginning of our Switzerland trip. The room was very clean, comfortable and the view of the snow capped mountains amazing. We ate dinner both nights at the hotel restaurants and the food was incredible, lots of choices on the menu. Karina (co-owner) was very pleasant, polite and helpful. The complimentary breakfast buffet had lots of choices. We had to leave early on check-out morning and they arranged a breakfast "to go" for us, and served us coffee when we went to pick it up (about 1 hour before the start of the breakfast buffet). Habkern was very charming and a nice relaxing start to our vacation. There was a significant amount of fresh snow on top of patio tables and spring blooms. There is bus service available from Interlaken (every hour). It's a bit of a wild ride up the mountain with tight curves on a narrow road! The tourist card included with the hotel stay only covers transport to and from Interlaken-Habkern area, and not the Interlaken region, which we didn't realize until our pass was checked on a local bus and we had to purchase the...

I recently stayed at this Gasthof and it was an incredible experience. From the moment I arrived I was warmly welcomed and felt at home. The service is excellent, with each member of staff ensuring everything was perfect.
The food is fantastic! Each dish is made with care and tastes delicious. As a vegetarian, I was amazed by vegetarian/vegan options. Every meal was fresh, tasty and well presented. It's clear they've put a lot of thought into their menu.
The location is also stunning. The views are stunning and enjoying a meal while watching the scenery is something I will never forget.
What makes this place truly special, therefore, are the people. The staff are friendly and really care about making your stay enjoyable. Their warmth and attention to detail create a welcoming atmosphere.
Overall this Gasthof is a great find, with excellent service, delicious food and beautiful views. I highly recommend it and can't wait to...
