Our family was traveling from Lauterbrunnen to Lugano when we passed this place. There was little else anywhere around. My 3yo daughter had been hard asleep from lots of travel and had an accident in her car seat. We pulled over and were stopped at the door by a man that seemed to be acting like a bouncer. I was immediately uncomfortable by his almost hostile demeanor. We explained the situation and asked to use a bathroom to get her into clean clothes. He asked if we were there for dinner or drinks. When we reiterated our problem, he conversed with a woman inside the door and then told us we could use the facilities if we paid for it. I was appalled at the lack of empathy for a child and family in a difficult situation, and that they placed profit over service. Someone in our family of 9 would likely have grabbed a drink while they waited for us had they allowed us a small gesture of kindness, but we refused to patronize such an unwelcoming restaurant.
To be clear, I never would have felt so strongly about this had the situation involved an adult who just wanted a bathroom break. The fact that it was a young child in immediate need of cleaning up is the part that makes...

Unlike most rösti in Switzerland (which, honestly, are mostly a bunch of roasted potatoes slices with stuff on top) this is served with the (cheese/vegetables/meat/whatever) inside a bit like an omelette. The result is surprising and excellent and tasty and makes you want to eat more even if you are stuffed. They have nice cakes if you are not full after two rösti btw.
Chapeau to the chef.

Read moreIf Michelin stars were awarded for rösti, this place would have all the stars. I know, you're thinking "meh, rösti is not even that good, what if I want something else?" No, you have not had rösti here. You have had normal Swiss rösti, which, let's be honest, can be really mediocre. This place redefines rösti, elevating it to a delicious, balanced flavorful main-dish. You can get the best traditional rösti of Switzerland, or you can get something really inspired, like the Mexican (my favorite, slightly spicy--which is rare in der Schweiz) or Greek. As a bonus, the owner is very friendly and...
