This was our choice for a stop over hotel whilst on our way down to Umbria (driving) from the UK. The hotel has a stunning outlook, with plenty of parking, pretty simple but clean rooms and bathrooms.||We arrived after a 700 mile trip, pretty exhausted and looking forward to a drink and a meal.||We were offered a complimentary drink which we took outside on the terrace, which was most pleasant, we were very much looking forward to dinner!||This was when the enjoyment stopped, having lived for many years in France (Paris-Limousin) I feel relatively confident that I know a little about decent food.||It's here that words fail me, the Menu is very expensive considering the fare that is available. I don't want to be offensive, but obviously chef has decided to go with an approach to food that, well basically is well beyond his capabilities, I think the food would be best described as 'deconstructed' dishes that defied imagination and the skill needed to pull them off. I've never really understood this sort of culinary debacle and only very skilled cooks can pull this off, in my mind the food failed on every level, and looking at other diners, I felt they were having the same experience. The dining room is spartan, no music in fact no atmosphere whatsoever, there were about 10 people dining in total silence, all looking at their food in a dissatisfied manner, I didn't see one diner who seemed to be enjoying the experience at all. The choice on the menu was poor, the meal for the three of us cost £200, miniscule portions both starters and main courses, one beer and two glasses of wine, I think that's a lot. We all went to bed hungry and quite baffled as to what chef was trying to achieve, in fact I will go as far to say that it was probably the worst meal I have ever been served in my life, which is strange seeing the bountiful produce available in Switzerland. With a proper menu using local produce this place would be perfect, with the current menu and style of cooking, in my opinion it's a total disaster. Thank goodness we were only there for one night, we were due to stay there on the return journey, but...
Read moreBeautiful location, room was very warm but the stunning views in both the bedroom and bathroom made up for this. We were able to open all windows and also heard the cowbells from down the mountain. The hotel does need an elevator/lift as we did have to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs, but the experience of this location made that worth it as well. The breakfast bar was fairly minimal for the standard breakfasts in Europe, but it was enough and you are able to sit outside overlooking all the beauty of the mountains and lake. We are from the states and just enjoyed the overall feel and location of this hotel immensely. It’s not your standard by any means. And after 2 long days on excusions, it was nice to return up the mountain, it’s an easy drive but very very pretty and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s also an authentic German cafe 1.5 miles down the road. It was very good and I’m assuming a less...
