the location is superb, so that's what you'll be paying for here. the service is ok, friendly enough for the Canton of Zurich. the food is just alright. nothing to write home about. absolutely & utterly too expensive and the portions are way too small. if you want to pay 35 francs for a burger and fries, go across the road to Big Burger, do takeaway and sit on a bench by the lake for the view. These are also horrendously expensive but at least they're really BIG and very tasty. That's THE best burger place to go around here. while at Schiffstation, you'll get mediocre to good food on a tiny plate and they don't even offer ice coffee in the heat of the summer (neither the version with vanilla ice cream, nor the one with just ice). I wonder why not? after all, they have ice and they serve coffee - surely it cannot be that hard to combine the two? The only thing I was offered on a hot summer day was a coffee flavored ice cream (tiny little pot for a lot of money too).
I get the local food vibe but when two people order a couple of sodas / ice teas, and two portions of fish, then pay 85 francs for these tiny portions and go home hungry, you'd expect us to have been to a michelin star restaurant. but that's not what this is. I had to part with some of my fish so that the person I was with didn't starve on his few fish chunks and a meager salad. it's actually outrageous.
I'll still come back and all, we do live here after all and they have the best position by the lake, but the truth also needs to be...

Dropping the anchor right beside the bucolic Männedorf elegant harbour, Schiff Station provides a wide variety of authentic local delicacies ranging from Lake Zurich fish to sausages, skewers and salads paired with red and white wines from Turmgut Erlenbach. As explained by the restaurant if the menu does venture abroad, it’s only to a neighbouring country (Italy, Austria, France, Germany, Liechtenstein). The nearby “Baur au Lac Vins” boutique offers upon request several additional wine choices; My menu: Pouletschpiess (=Chicken Skewer; 160gr; 16.90CHF), Falafel vo Samigo’s Amusement (w/ Hummus; 18.50CHF), Trüffelpommfritt (=Truffled French Fries) wie im Hotel Cervo z’Zermatt (11.50CHF) and Pommfrit klassisch (=French Fries; 6.50CHF)....
Read moreGreat location. That’s the only positive. Starter was Ok (but expensive), service was the WORST. We sat around waiting for an hour for our food as everyone around us who came later got their food. When we asked, they simply dismissed us. Eventually, we decided to pay and go. The German waitress who served us basically yelled at us in front of everybody and said that it was the kitchen’s fault (how can it be when everyone else that came after us got their food?) She could not bring herself to admit that she messed up. She was so loud with us that one of the other guest had to remind her that WE were the guests. We paid, left and had a burger across the street with a much nicer service. Hopefully, there was someone filming this incident or a webcam somewhere to capture...
