Stayed here for one night whilst walking the Via Alpina. This is a delightful chalet style hotel with cosy, comfortable rooms and beds. The downside is there is only a sink in the room so the single shower and toilet on the landing are shared by all guests. We knew this before we stayed so were prepared for it and you can use the toilet facilities downstairs by the bar. The staff are very friendly and the evening meal, which is included as there is nowhere else to eat, was exceptionally good. The hotel has a very good chef producing fine dining quality food. (Good quantity too after a day's hiking!). We had a beef tartar starter which was very tasty, seafood and pesto pasta and an unusual apple based dessert. Sandwiches for the next day were limited to a choice of cheese, ham or salami. I asked for cheese and tomato but that wasn't possible (presumably no tomatoes available) and they were quite pricey. However you can eat at the hotel at Grosse Scheidegg if you are walking to Grindelwald. On the whole this is a very pleasant place to stay and its quirkiness is one of its attributes. A fun and...

Read moreWe ate here spontaneously tonight, and didn't reserve. The restaurant closes at 8, and we arrived 6.45. First thought the waitress was not happy with the late guests but we were pleasantly surprised. A very very positive evening from A-Z. The waitress gave her best, was friendly and helpful. The food were were very very surprised at! Finally something other than schnitzel and bratwurst in a mountain restaurant. The lentil stew was amazing, and the chicken wings with sauce and sweet potatoes done to a T. We didn't have very high expectations, but will for sure be back again and again and tell friends and family to come as well. Next visit I will try the pancakes and maple syrup! A "must" if in the region, take the extra mile to get up...
