We picked this restaurant for lunch for our extended family based on the 4.6 rating, some excellent reviews, and the two $$ price category. So yes we had reasonably high expectations.
What we got fell well below those reasonable expectations. We were given a mediocre table despite nicer tables being available; madam said they were ‘reservé’ even though no one showed up for them through our long (and late - 1:25pm arrival) lunch. Okay, though we were still prepared to be impressed. And to be 100% fair, initially we were. The air dried beef was amazing, some of the best we have had. Unfortunately, after that, things went downhill fast. Three of us had the rösti with smoked salmon; an expensive dish at CHF 36 for a smaller portion and CHF 48 for a larger portion. When the food showed up, the different sized orders looked identical (!) and rather small - based on this alone this should be a ‘$$$’ restaurant at least! I was polite and did not complain at the time but in hindsight multiple folks in our party had independently noticed that the portion sizes looked identical. As for the quality, the rösti was fair at best, not nice and crispy and sizzling as it is at the best places. The smoked salmon was fine, though nothing to write home about. One of our party had the spinach soup, which was supposed to be a signature dish, and found it bland and uninspired. The rest of our party went with the daily special, which was salad with 3 Malakoffs - we asked what the Malakoff was and did not get a precise answer, she said ‘trois morceau de fromage’ without further elaboration; it thus ended up not being what we were expecting but was per se okay. In general we found the service no more than fair.
While nothing was bad, for the price and the ratings, we left thoroughly disappointed; the only dish that was memorable was the air dried...
Read moreProbably the nicest terrace in Rougemont, with a direct view of the Videmanette. On a sunny day, it’s truly an amazing spot — warm, protected, and full of charm. This place is known for its traditional fondue and raclette, and with the new owners, who now have been there a few years, the quality of the local cheese and fondue mix remains great. The menu has expanded, so you’ll now find more than just the classic cheese or meat platters.
That said, while it’s still a solid spot, it doesn’t quite have the same vibe for me anymore — it’s no longer my favorite. However, if you’re looking to enjoy a beautiful day or want the experience of a cozy little cheese place in the Swiss Alps, it’s still very much...
Read moreI have come here since I was a little boy (early 80's) and have wonderful memories! The atmosphere and rustic interior are unbearable! Back in the day they were mainly focused on cheese dishes, but have since expanded their menu to include meat dishes! Typically I would recommend everyone that goes to either go for the Cheese Fondue or Raclette, as they are amazing, but I have now tried their Geschnetzeltes and it was excellent!!! The combination of rustic ambiance and excellent food makes this my all-time favorite place in the...
