Cozy family run hotel in a small village at 1800m. The village is the last village before you enter the Swiss National Park. Beautiful scenery and landscape when you look out of your room. With a swiss pine wood restaurant. The rooms are small, basic, but very nice decorated and comfortable beds. Some come with swiss pine wood. The owner is the chef and cooks delicious traditional regional food. Game meat from the mountains around is always on the menu. Breakfast is typical Swiss, with homemade jam and "Bircher Muesli". The village can be reached by car or bus only in summer. In winter you can take a horse carriage or hike up in 2.5 hours. We did both already and both is charming. In Winter the Gasthaus is the only hotel open in this village, the second one is only open in summer.||||The area is perfect for hiking for all skill levels. Even a small glacier is in reach. In Winter you can start ski tours right at the house or just stroll around with snow shoes. The hotel has a hot pot and sauna on the patio with views onto the mountains. ||||Be aware this hotel is remote and if you are there you better do not plan to many trips away from there It takes 30 minutes on a windy little road to go to the next village. However, on summer weekends there are many day trip hikers with families, but after 6 pm you are alone with the guest and some of the residents. Kids can play on a little playground at the hotel or...

Second, the Gasthaus Mayor proved to be equally charming and good. ||||I had booked a tiny little single room in the attic. It was really tiny, maybe 10 square meters, but so well designed that they'd managed to fit everything in it (bed, sink, 2 cupboards, a tiny desk, footstool, window) without it feeling cramped. Shared toilet and shower were very clean.||||But the best part was the food! I had booked the "Halbpension", i.e., half-board. Usually, half-board dinners are pretty basic and uninspiring. You accept this when you book it because it's the most practical solution and cheaper than dining a la carte. But not here! This was a gourmet-quality half-board with three excellent courses (deer stew with rösti and baked fennel was the main course, just to give you an idea). And in a very cozy, traditional dining room. And with impeccable service. Really...
