This is not your everyday experience. It first requires getting to Vna which is a couple buses away from Scuol. Then you either hike in 1.5 hours or call and they will pick you up with your luggage. ||Once here you enjoy a four room mountain inn with fine dining and comfortable accommodations.||||The interior is a magnificent series of carved wood walls and ceilings all with a beautiful aged patina. It looks like the house of a wealthy citizen which it once was. Hikers come along all day to stop in for lunch with wine and normally like to sit out on the terrace overlooking the valley. ||||Once the sun dips low the magic really begins. We would return from our hikes just as the others were leaving since it does take an hour or so to get back to Vna. We found ourselves alone in this majestic setting two of the three nights we stayed. We agreed on a dinner time with the chef and went up to the room for a soak in a warm tub. ||||We came down to dinner to see the room lit with candles and set for dinner. The darkness and silence was just stunning. The only sound was the rush of the rivers just out of sight. All meals were generous and well prepared with Scuol's Hatecke Butia's bündnerfleish and salsiz being the star of most meals. The cheese served came from the surrounding villages and added to the feeling of local foods.||||Our room was beautiful with woodwork similar to downstairs and wonderful views out to the surrounding mountains. You need to want to be away from the crowds but if you are in the mood for a unique adventure you can't do much better than Hof Zuort. You can easily get back to Zurich in one day if you chose but why not try a night in Vna to see a bit of alpine village living. If your lucky during the summer they make cheese up at Alp Pra San Flurin about an hours hike up from Hof Zuort. So this is what an...

Read moreWe enjoyed our stay last year so much we decided to come from our apartment in Paris to visit again. What a contrast coming from Paris to here. We stayed in mid September and were the only guests again with the exception of a hunter from Scuol spending a night on his way up into the mountains. September is hunting season so that makes Hof Zuort a real hunting lodge rather than a pretend one!||||The couple running the place were amazing as hosts, always accessible but never intrusive. All transfers and our room were coordinated as arranged. We just called on our iPhone after a fine lunch at Hotel Piz Tschütte in Vna.||||The room looks out over the beautiful meadow and down the valley towards the mountains across the way. You only hear the rushing waters of the mountain streams and the occasional gunshot as the hunters stalk their prey. The meals are based on locally sourced meats and cheeses with typical mountain food. We enjoyed a fresh venison stew one night playing up the hunting lodge theme. ||||We normally stay in Guarda when in Graubunden which is a beautiful and charming architectural treat but for the full mountain experience nothing I have experienced comes close to Hof Zuort. Using this as a base allows you to hike much further up into the mountains and still return home to a warm meal and a soft bed. ||||The quiet will stay with you even after you have returned to your normal life....
