We stopped here overnight as we hiked the Via Alpina across the Swiss Alps. The trail itself runs along the river, and there is a sign showing the way to the hotel. That side trail is short (perhaps 1/10 of a mile) and leads you to the Klausenpass road, where you find the hotel.||||The hotel is older and simple, but very clean and in very good condition. The proprietors greeted us warmly and showed us to our rooms. Each room had a sink, the WC was across the hall and the shower was one floor down. On each bed was a terry cloth robe for our use. The rooms were very simple, and not large, but comfortable. The windows gave us a view of the river and forest.||||The area is quite spectacular, with a huge, jagged ridge of peaks towering behind the hotel. The Klausenpass road is popular with motorcyclists, but we did not experience any irritating noise. ||||We bought "half pension" (dinner and breakfast), and that meant that the proprietors served us a several course dinner of their choosing. Our meal was good and plentiful, and traditionally Swiss.||||The proprietress was especially kind to us. She spoke no English. But because the weather was stormy, she offered to drive the four of us up to the top of Klausenpass (a good five mile drive, one way). We greatly appreciated the generous offer, but declined. ||||For simple, genuine Swiss hospitality, this is a very good place for...

Read moreA friendly host who was a good cook but overall the experience was disappointing. The room was basic and no soap or shampoo in the bathroom (when we requested some we were only given a shower gel). Dinner was good but breakfast meagre - just bread, jam, a little cheese and a single cup of coffee. We’d requested breakfast at 7am as we had a king day’s hike ahead of us on the Via Alpina - not an unreasonable request we felt. But we were made to feel it was a great inconvenience. We left feeling very disappointed Such a shame as with a few small changes this could be a good little stop...
