Gasthof Gyrenbad — Restaurant in Turbenthal

Imagine a sunny, slightly windy day in a wonderful place. This place is really in a fantastic location, and for this reason I'd definitely recommend a visit. But when it comes to the reason for us visiting this restaurant (eat and drink) the judgment changes radically. Slow service, high prices for average sized dishes, terrible acoustic in the covered tables at the terrace and unfriendly waiters. Last and least: we were some 20 people including 6 kids, ate, drank wine and asked for tap water. We got it with the clarification that they would change for it, and they did! 8 CHF for tap water, just ridiculous...Even though they have a nice playing ground I still cannot recommend this place. The Gasthof Gyrenbad dates from the 14th century. It sits on a hill with, by all accounts, a lovely view. however the night we were there the fog stopped us from seeing the view! It did not stop us from having an excellent dinner. The menu choices are extensive and, since this is autumn, there were several venison etc. dishes to choose from. One of our group is a very picky eater aged 7. There was no problem at all in getting him a plate of spätzli with some cheese even though it was not "officially" on the children's menu.||The service was attentive and prompt. Since there was a large birthday party going on in one of the dining rooms this was all the more remarkable.||I would not hesitate to go back - hopefully in summer so we could see the view...
