Bistro Im Spilhöfler — Restaurant in Uitikon

This restaurant is a little off the beaten path and there were plenty of locals, hikers, and cyclists that were using the nearby trails. This definitely seems to be more of a locals place given all the reviews are in German but we didn't have much trouble with English.

The restaurant is easy to find with plenty of parking on the street. We were there on Sunday where most parking is free, but not sure if there is a charge normally. We were quickly seated and provided with menus when we entered by the friendly waitress.

There are some nice views of the surrounding area and the restaurant is clean and inviting. My gf commented on the cleanliness and organization visible in the kitchen in the quick glimpses we had when the door was open.

The food itself was fresh, local, cuisine. I wish I could rate it a bit higher but it didn't get to 5 star level. The mushroom soup was ok, and maybe traditional style but to me it seemed like a broth. The salad was excellent and one of our favorite items. We also had a local fried fish and a beef dish with sauce that were both decent.

Unser Besuch war diesmal vom Essen her eine Katastrophe. Es war ein Fehler, heute eine Salatschüssel zu bestellen. Der Salat war buchstäblich in Sauce getränkt, und statt frischem, knackigem Salat bekam ich matschige Blätter. Der zweite Gang, ein Rindertartar, schien ein Industrieprodukt zu sein. Das Fleisch war zu fein gehackt. Das Ergebnis war eine aufgetaute Fleischpaste. Die Butter dazu schmeckte nach Margerine. Sehr schade, dass die Qualität abgenommen hat.
