I got caught in a really bad hail and rain storm and found Le soliat to be open on a Tuesday ! I entered through the door with my last step and nerve.

It was definitely the most characteristic and rustic of the chalets I’ve stopped in.

Walking around, you can feel every step pressing into the wooden boards, but don’t worry, I didn’t fall through😉.

There are two floors. I chose to dine upstairs, as the downstairs main room is very large so I left it to groups. The upstairs was much more quaint and cozy for a solo hiker like myself.

There are a few lamps but most of the light comes from the small windows around the building.

There were fireplaces in the main room. There are outlets upstairs AND WIFI. More than I could’ve asked.

They cook the traditional Swiss dishes in the kitchen but also sell many artisanal goods like local beers, tartes, farm eggs, bread, chips and other farm items.

Around noon, there was a rush of German hiking groups.

I heard workers speaking Dutch, Spanish, French, and some English.

They provide beds for rent in the property next door.

Their only downfall is that they are more expensive than other chalets I’ve passed.

17,90 CHF for a beer, cafe, Pringle’s, and a plum tarte

They accept cash OR a local money transfer...

The service was lacking. Non of them are Swiss and they seem clueless about what is actually on the menu, when you ask. They sold us a 75cl bottle of white wine which was too expensive. When we looked at the bottle it said 70cl on it, and they didn't give us any form of compensation or say sorry.

We ordered a normal fondue which said on the menu " Fondue 220g " for 28chf. So we ordered for 2 people and we only got 220g to share and we paid for 2 so 56chf in total. I asked if it was the right amount for 2 people for the right price, and the said "yes that is correct".

The room is too expensive, and they don't have regular outlet in the rooms, they have car charger ports. So we had to charge everything in the restaurant while sitting there and waiting for it to charge.

Untop of all that, the mood gets spoiled by the staff Scream in spainish to each even when...

Ich war gestern da. Nunja.

To avoid... We got in and had no response to our greetings. Then the waitress was throwing stuff to us. At some point it became so rude that i had to ask if our presence was unwelcome. We ordered 'tome' cheese and got 'gruyère'. Once we were looking for a sit, tables were dirty and it was pretty dark inside. At some point they turned the lights on after few groups of people came in. Just don't go, bring your own food and eat in the marvelous landscapes surrounding that terrible place. Ah yes... And the cheese had no taste, bread was dry.

After a rather strenuos hike and spectacular views, unwind & enjoy a tasty meal at this restaurant. It is a 300m walk to the right after hiking to the top in the middle of the meadow. They serve fondue, salads, sandwiches, beef (angus) and if you are lucky sausages too. They serve the local Absinthe which is a must try if you have reached here. You can try green or white. Drink it neat or with water. With water see the colour change of Absinthe. All in all a lovely place to enjoy your sunny afternoon.
