I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant zum Kreuz.

A charming stop in the Bernese alpine region, perfect if you’re exploring the area or just looking for a good meal with a view. The drive up to the restaurant offers beautiful scenery, especially on the final stretch—just watch out for the local cats that like to stroll across the road. The owners have even put up cute signs in both directions asking drivers to slow down, which adds to the place’s friendly and homey charm.

The restaurant has two terraces on different levels—one sunny, one more shaded—so you can choose depending on your mood and the weather. The table setup is quite simple, but the chairs are comfortable, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

There’s a wide selection of food on the menu. We were in the mood for something simple: I had a green salad followed by chicken escalope with fries and vegetables, while my friend went for the veal liver with mushroom sauce. Both dishes were nicely cooked—nothing fancy, but satisfying and in a hearty, homemade style.

The service was friendly and efficient, and there’s plenty of free parking right next to the restaurant. Warum das Restaurant so gut bewertet wird ist mir ein Rätsel. Wir waren an einem Freitagabend dort, tote Hose. Die Kellnerin machte den Eindruck als hätte es die letzten 7 Tage geregnet. Das Essen war durchschnitt. Der „Kreuzhit“ war alles andere als ein Hit. Der Reis zerkocht, viel zu viel Sultaninen und Mandeln drin, mangelhaft. Das Teller mit dem Cordonbleu lieblos gestaltet. Wir hatten einen wirklich schönen Aufenthalt im Restaurant Kreuz in Wechingen. Der Salat extrem lecker, knackig und abwechslungsreich – es gab verschiedene Komponenten, nicht nur grünen Salat. Das hat uns besonders gut gefallen!
