Restaurant Oxen — Restaurant in Wetzikon (ZH)

We had a late dinner in the restaurant. For starters we ordered beef tartar, arancini, anchovies and prawns. As main course my friend ordered pasta with tomato sauce alla Vittorio and burrata. I have asked for advice between risotto and octopus and the owner recommended octopus. I am sorry to say that we liked none of those dishes. Tartar had little taste of meat, because it had way too much sauce in it. Prawns were tasteless, the owner later explained that people dont usually fancy any garlic or other sauces, so they just fry them in the bread crumbs. I could not finish my octopus - it was very hard and also tasteless. Pasta was ok, but the owner insisted that they follow a Vittorio Cerea recipe. We doubt it, it looked and tasted more like a regular tomato sauce. I am sorry to say I will not...

Hat unsere Erwartung bei weitem nicht erfüllt. Spargelcremesuppe hatte die Farbe von Mushy Peas, und entsprechend schmeckte die Suppe auch kein bisschen nach Spargeln - ausserdem war noch so eine Art Ricottakäse drin - vom Geschmack her undefinierbar und nichts daran erinnerte an eine Spargelcremesuppe. Die Pommes zum Burger waren nicht knusprig - gerade mal so knapp durchfrittiert. Omas Fleischbällchen in Tomatensugo (Mittagsmenu)..... na ja, wir haben dieses Gericht 3x bestellt, und niemand von uns hat es gern gehabt. Es war noch ein Käse (vermutlich Schafskäse) in den Bällchen drin verarbeitet, was wir alle als sehr störend empfanden. Sugo hatten wir auch schon viel besseren bei anderen Italienern. Der Risotto mit Mascarpone & Gemüse war ebenfalls mässig von der Qualität her. Das Gemüse noch fast roh, und alles recht fad und lieblos. Der Service war nicht sehr aufmerksam. Nach dem Aperitiv gab es daher nichts mehr zu trinken, ausserdem mussten wir für unseren Burger und Mittagsmenu fast 10 Minuten länger warten, als andere Gäste, die nach uns gekommen sind. Fazit: alles wird schön hergerichtet, entspricht qualitativ aber bei weitem nicht dem wie es aussieht. Immerhin sind die Preise relativ moderat, trotzdem werden wir hier nicht mehr hinkommen zum Essen, da es einfach bessere Optionen gibt in...

Sin dal primo momento in cui entri all’Oxen, vieni accolto da un’atmosfera calda e autentica: l’edificio storico, con i suoi legni e la decorazione tradizionale, trasmette un senso di charme che difficilmente si dimentica.

Il servizio è impeccabile: attento ma mai invadente, cordiale e professionale. Lo staff ti fa sentire a casa, curando ogni dettaglio, dal saluto iniziale alla scelta del vino, fino al momento del dessert.

La cucina è vera espressione dell’Italia, con un tocco personale. Piatti preparati con ingredienti freschi, ben bilanciati nei sapori, presentati con cura ma senza inutili fronzoli. Le porzioni sono generose, ma non eccessive — giuste per godersi ogni portata senza sentirsi appesantiti.

Ho apprezzato in particolare le specialità sarde e toscane che sembrano “venire da casa”, ma con quella cura professionale che le rende speciali. Anche la carta dei vini merita una menzione: varietà interessante, etichette di valore e abbinamenti ben pensati.

Nel complesso, il rapporto qualità-prezzo è molto buono, considerando qualità della cucina, servizio e atmosfera.
