Somar Restaurant — Restaurant in Latakia Governorate

This has been one of the recommended restaurants to visit in Latakia. It offers great views and dining by the sea. I thought this would be the place finally in Syria where I could try some seafood. Visited the restaurant and was quite impressed by the facade how grand it looked, even the overall ambience in the restaurant was good. It would be good to be seated in the outdoors near to the sea but the tables were all occupied so we sat indoors by the windows to have the sea view. I was told they had fish but was not in the menu so I ordered the Samaka Harra which was fish in spicy sauce. I regretted ordering it because I waited for more than an hour for the dish to be served, and I don't know why the fried fish was in a lukewarm state instead of being hot, and the shock that I got when I got the bill that the dish was so expensive. Was also not sure why the polo drink had to be covered with a piece of foil. Did they already prepare it way before hand and did this so as to maintain freshness since it was juice? Even my tour guide said seafood is supposed to be expensive in Syria but the fish here was more expensive than he expected. Not only the fish I waited for an hour, my guide ordered the chicken took longer than my fish to arrive. I didn't really like it that we spent 2 hours for a meal here which was expensive and quality not up to expectations. Other than the view, this restaurant food and service was really not on par.
