A Must-Visit for Tea Lovers: Alishan Oolong Tea Farm is a Hidden Gem!

Our group recently had an amazing experience at the family-owned Alishan Oolong Tea Farm, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone who’s passionate about tea or looking for an authentic, local experience. It’s a bit of a trek to get there — you’ll need a taxi or your own transport since it’s tucked away on narrow, scenic roads — but the journey is absolutely worth it!

We dropped in without an appointment (although we later learned it’s best to book in advance), and the owner warmly welcomed us despite the surprise. Though he mainly spoke Chinese, he used a translation app to guide us through each step of the tea-making process, from harvest to drying, roasting, and everything in between. He even showed us photos and video clips to make it all come to life, which we really appreciated.

The highlight, though, was definitely the tea tasting itself. As he prepared different teas for us to sample, he gave us insights into the ideal water temperature and timing, starting with 40 seconds for each fresh batch. The care and precision behind each brew really stood out and made us appreciate the art of tea-making in a new way.

After tasting, he took us on a tour of the factory, which employs around 15 people (up to 50 when it’s harvest season!) and has 10 hectares of beautiful tea fields. It was especially meaningful to know that this is a family business, with a rich tradition — and we even got to meet the original founder, who’s still around and passionate about sharing his love for tea.

One of our favorite moments was being allowed to walk around one of the tea fields ourselves. We snapped plenty of photos, and it was surreal to be right there among the rows of tea plants, surrounded by mountain views. It truly made the experience feel intimate and special.

A fun little bonus? The owner's brother wanted a photo with us, which made the experience even more memorable! And don’t leave without trying the wasabi cookies he sells; they’re pungent, incredibly tasty, and like nothing we’ve had before.

If you’re a tea enthusiast and looking to take home some quality local teas, this spot is a must. We left with a deeper appreciation for high mountain oolong tea and a bag of tea and cookies to keep the...

The owner and his family are so friendly. The tea fields they maintain are absolutely beautiful. We stopped here early morning on our trip up Alishan. The tea-tasing was really educational, and the teas were really good. My dad loves tea and is a huge tea connoisseur, and he was so excited talking to the owner. You can definitely tell why this tea farm has won so many awards! Would definitely recommend stopping here if you are...

You will not regret a stop here. Here you can see the tea growing and processing to their amazing products which includes oolong as well as alishan black tea which is unique in the way the tea is rolled into balls as well as conventional black tea. Also they grow and sell coffee here. The coffee is pricy but really good. If you are lucky enough, limited supply of tea seed oil....
