his place is an absolute treasure! The owner whips up these spectacular seafood teishoku lunch and dinner sets, packed with tiny Japanese-inspired dishes made from Yilan’s finest seafood and local veggies. And get this—the owner actually bothers to source the fish directly from the fishermen, so your lunch and dinner fish might actually be different depending on what’s fresh. Shocking, I know.
You have the privilege of choosing between two thrilling cooking methods: salt-grilled or soy sauce-grilled fish. I went with the salt-grilled because, heaven forbid, I miss out on tasting the “fresh” fish flavor and the subtle hint of ocean salinity.
Oh, and the menu helpfully points out which fish have fewer bones—because nothing says “thoughtful” like sparing you from a bone-picking battle.
Each teishoku set graciously includes soup, rice, a simmered fish, a cold veggie appetizer, salad, and the main course. And, just to keep things exciting, the beef curry is also excellent. But whatever you do, don’t skip the fresh fish course—it’s an absolute must.
Then there’s the seafood hotpot, which is, quite frankly, mind-blowing. And just when you think you can’t be more impressed, the staff will take the leftover, flavor-packed broth and magically transform it into a comforting bowl of congee.
The staff? Super friendly and helpful, naturally. It’s a fun spot for families, big or small, and if you’re feeling fancy!...
Read moreMy friend from Jiaoxi (Taiwan) invited me to lunch to this restaurant. It's an unassuming place, inbetween rice fields. on a not too busy country side road. You would probably drive by unless you felt the need to eat something. It is not a Cafe, contrary to the description on the outside of the building, it's a real restaurant although you can have coffee and/or cake if you wished so. The place was pretty full as it was lunch hour. I left the ordering to my friend as he knew the owner. So I was presented with this interesting meal with the biggest squid I had ever seen on a plate. Everything tasted great, but it was too much food so I didn't finish the squid. This is not a cheap place, as I could see from the cars parked outside, but that's not surprising as the food I saw served on the other tables (and the meals my friend and I ate) was anything but standard fare. I also used the rest room, very clean and big, that is in a separate building. To sum it up, if you are in the area because of the Hot Springs, worthwhile visiting if you want to get your...
Read moreI would rate this place 3.5 stars. The daily fresh caught fish is well noted for the place. The fishes are indeed fresh but it doesn't really give much surprise other than the freshness. The grilled fish doesn't have the charcoal smell. Also, the side dishes need to be more creative or something to mingle well with the fish itself. However, the matcha cake is really good and not too sweet. The dining environment is spacious and good for...
