I had the pleasure of savoring the delightful roasted chicken at 番割田瓮缸鸡 in Yilan, Taiwan, and it was an absolute culinary masterpiece! The star of the show was undoubtedly the roasted chicken, which boasted exceptional freshness, tenderness, and a mouthwatering aroma that tantalized the senses.

What made this dining experience even more unique was the requirement to wear both cotton gloves and plastic gloves when portioning out the chicken. This attention to hygiene and careful handling of each serving added an extra layer of thoughtfulness to the experience, ensuring the utmost quality and cleanliness.

Accompanying the succulent chicken were fresh, crunchy vegetables that perfectly complemented the flavors and added a refreshing element to the meal. Every bite was a delightful combination of textures, highlighting the restaurant's commitment to using the finest ingredients.

The establishment itself is impressively spacious, with a seating area that can easily accommodate up to 150 patrons per sitting. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the ambiance remained vibrant and comfortable. Additionally, I was pleased to find that the restroom facilities were clean, reflecting the restaurant's dedication to maintaining a pleasant dining environment.

With regards to pricing, the roasted chicken came at a reasonable cost of TWD 700, and when combined with several bowls of rice and a side dish (vegetable;e), our total bill amounted to TWD 1000. Considering the generous portions and the exceptional quality of the food, it was undeniably a worthwhile investment.

During my visit around 2 pm, the restaurant was brimming with customers, attesting to its popularity among locals and visitors alike. Despite the high demand, the service remained efficient, and our food was promptly served.

In conclusion, 番割田瓮缸鸡 in Yilan, Taiwan, is a must-visit destination for roasted chicken enthusiasts. The fresh, tender, and perfectly roasted chicken, accompanied by crisp vegetables, offers an unforgettable culinary experience. With its spacious seating area and pristine facilities, this restaurant provides a comfortable and enjoyable setting for a satisfying meal. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a delectable roasted chicken...

We came here on a Tuesday for lunch as this is nearest to where our next stop would be (ie diy pencil factory). Upon the recommendation of our taxi driver, we ordered the full chicken (they serve it whole, there is no smaller portions or half chicken), a weird looking vegetable dish (we only found out later it was actually bird nest fern), a noodle dish, as well as a seaweed soup. You will have to proceed to the counter near to the entrance for ordering and then tell them your table number. The food will be served to your table when ready. The portion was simply too much for us (3 adults and 2 toddlers). One unique feature is they will supply you with gardening gloves as well as plastic gloves. So you will wear the gardening gloves first, followed by the plastic gloves as you will actually need to use your hands to tear the chicken to bite size pieces. The gardening gloves are handy as the chicken is actually very very hot! There is apparently a bowl of chicken oil (im guessing for you to dip the chicken meat before eating). Some parts of the chicken meat is actually still quite aged/dry and other parts are dripping oil. Quite a unique taste but could be heavy tasting after a while. We couldn't get used to eating the weird tasting vegetables though and left it almost untouched. There is availability of plastic bags for you to pack the uneaten food...

The star dish at this restaurant is the Smoked/Roast Chicken, roasted in a huge jar-like equipment. They offer only whole chickens, in 1 flavour, regardless of your group size. There are some side dishes you can add on, so greedy me ordered a local wild vegetable (宝川菜 or what they call 野菜), seafood rolls and traditional spring rolls, all chef recommendations.

The chicken is served whole (with the head and feet in tact) and they provide gloves for you to shred it yourself.

The chicken was flavourful, it was just stuffed with ginger and what looked like pandan leaves but it was bursting with flavours, with a nicely roasted crispy skin and tender juicy meat. The seafood roll was good but I didn't enjoy the traditional spring roll which was just stuffed with way too much scallions and some spice I didn't like.

Clearly too much food for just...
