Long review and rating due to unpleasant experience by one service and staff. Food and drinks were fine.
I occasionally come in the mornings with my son between 6:45 am-7:30 am before work. Yesterday, Wednesday, 3/22, was the first time the atmosphere was pretty uncomfortable. The service personally was great and professional by Beth. She was kind, patient and had a gentle smile when taking my order. She seemed like she may have still been in training or had less experience, but she was very professional.
What ruined the atmosphere was the other woman who was working. I didn't get a chance to see her name, but she was older, had short hair and seemed like she had more experience than Beth. From the time we sat down to the time we left, she probably talked down to her coworker very rudely, disrespectfully and unprofessionally. In Mandarin, she kept sighing loudly in frustration and saying things rather loudly along the lines of "Lady, what are you doing??, why can't you get it?? , what's wrong with you??" - multiple times. Instead of actually training her, showing her where things are, taking time to help her, encouraging her and being professional about it, she just berated her over and over again. Beth did not seem like she felt comfortable at all, but she kept a smile on the whole time and kept her professionalism, unlike her superior, who clearly has superiority complex.
Before we left, she told Beth, "It'd be better if you weren't here. Just leave, leave the scene now. Go, go, to take a rest!" (translated). Beth finished helping a customer and immediately walked into the break room. I'm sure she felt discouraged, embarrassed and defeated. And not once throughout the whole hour I was there did she show it or talk back to her manager. I almost wish she spoke up and hope she did/does when she's not working.
I was shocked at the older woman's nasty attitude and verbal abuse and her openness about it. She did this in front of customers too while Beth was taking their order and processing Ubereats. This created a really uncomfortable atmosphere for those dining in. I also had my young son with me.
The older woman was welcoming towards guests (clearly not genuinely) and worked efficiently, but what's the point in that when you aren't willing and patient enough to teach your own team members and treat them with the same kindness?? She completely abused her seniority and power to treat Beth. I am sure this is not the standard and the values that Starbucks requires and calls for. There needs to be consequences for this manager or staff member and more importantly, she needs training in HOW TO TRAIN. How do you expect someone to learn if they don't feel comfortable coming to you for help? This way of teaching and training is abuse.
Beth should be placed with someone who actually wants to be a team member and work with her in a positive, encouraging way. Her professionalism and service should be rewarded. You did a great job, Beth, and you don't deserve this kind of treatment. Please speak up and report her directly to your higher ups if you can. She shouldn't be allowed to work if this is her attitude and treatment...

Plenty of electric sockets allowed customers to study or work for hours. Free drinking water near the pick up station downstairs and the black sesame almond tofu frappiccino drinks were awesome! (Alas this flavor is never available in the US!) Very relaxing and it was easily one of our favorite Starbucks...
