漁采時令料理．更生店 — Restaurant in Taitung City

Stopped in for a solo lunch today at the recommendation of a friend. This restaurant did not disappoint in the least!

I ordered the sashimi set and it exceeded expectations. I’m a big lover of Japanese food and each bite of this meal was superb. The seasoning was delicate, it wasn’t too salty, and the sweet flavours of each ingredient contrasted well against each other. I added an order of sea urchin and it was fresh and delicious.

I had some chilled sake to go with it (accidentally ordered a 500ml bottle when I wanted 300ml). The mistake happened because I thought the price was for 300ml so didn’t read it carefully.

If I had to pick at one thing, it would be the chicken inside the steamed egg, it was overcooked and stringy, would recommend using chicken thigh or a small piece of fish instead.

I will definitely return next time...

Broad selection of good quality Japanese food at competitive prices. But the poor service really killed the experience for us. We were greeted at opening by a dour looking waitress who shouted at us "Reservation?" Once we confirmed she promptly seated us without any further words of welcome whatsoever. Service from her was pretty much the same throughout the meal, abrupt service with a sour face, it really put a damper on the whole experience. Although we weren't told this, we overheard other servers tell their guests that they have a limit of 90 minutes to finish their meals. Sounds like a restaurant that is overconfident and forgetting to actually provide hospitality along...

After an exhausting day traveling around Taiwan, and seeing the menu in Chinese, I was about to collapse... but there was no problem. Both, waitresses and cooks kindly helped me choose, they explained everything to me patiently, they recommended me again and again, and finally they took care of everything.
