We were browsing for a while to find a perfect match for my father-in-law’s 70 years old birthday and our decision was down to Afterglow due to their signature decor in traditional Taiwanese building 三合院.
We got 2 entrees, Seafood Pasta & Beef Short Rib, with set and their Chef Special 6 Courses Prix Fixe. The food was overall decent and delicate, especially their entrees which were cooked perfectly. Our favorite was the short ribs and lamb from chef special, both were tender and juicy.
However, there is still room for their appetizers and desserts to improve in our opinion. The hot appetizer crab cake was kind of blend and dry inside. We tried all of their desserts, the flavor was just okay and the plating wasn’t on point.

Read more位置在苑裡,下交流道五分鐘可到。門外大概可以停三台,附近有個空地也能停車。整體環境真的很漂亮,5點多到正好日落時分,完美貼合餐廳afterglow之名。 餐點: 麵包。符合預期,奶油有香草味。麵包鬆軟。
開胃小點。炸腐皮跟炸干貝?球。干貝球吃不出什麼特別味道,有點偏鹹,可能沒有用太多的人工魚漿,但也造成整體鬆軟,沒有甚麼口感,或許可以拌點荸薺之類。炸腐皮,就像前面有人評論的,原本以為會包個什麼東西,但沒有,就是單純炸腐皮,雖然炸的很剛好也蠻好吃,但會有點空虛感。搭配的醃蘿蔔酸甜不錯。
沙拉。就是一般好的西式沙拉,火腿、生菜、西瓜、果乾。不算失望,也沒有特別亮點。但都挖西瓜球了,稍微注意一下,避開西瓜仔應該不難。生菜份量可以再多一點。
湯品。清湯跟玉米濃湯。清湯認真處理過,沒有浮沫,味道清甜。玉米濃湯一般,但搭配爆米花給口感跟小巧思不錯。
熱前菜。炸鯊魚漿丸。這個真的相當失望,扣分主要在這邊。整體過乾,就算搭配辣美乃滋跟金桔還是無法平衡掉。而且撇開擺盤部分,這道就是一顆炸魚丸,空虛感爆表。應該是想要貼合苑裡在地特產,不過老實說一般花枝丸還比較好吃……
副主餐。芒果燉飯。口味不錯,米的硬度掌握的非常好。份量太少。沙拉的芒果乾,再次出現有點重複。荸薺有點切太大顆。
雪酪。草莓口味的,應該也是想貼合苗栗在地特色。但是芒果燉飯完,接一個濃甜膩的雪酪,膩上加膩,或許可以更換順序之類,或者改成清爽感的草莓冰沙應該不難。
主餐。香草豬與牛小排。本來想要升級伊比利老饕部位,但可惜沒有。平日客量不多的狀況下可能備食材會有壓力。豬是後頸松阪部位,搭配炒時蔬跟炸牛蒡,口味還不錯。醬汁部分,大蔥米醬有點吃不懂,雖然應該有get到主廚的巧思,醬本身米香跟蔥香也明顯,但口味方面個人不愛。牛排本身表現不錯,肉質跟熟度都好,但端上來有點血水,靜置時間可能要再調整?搭配的剝皮辣椒醬,醬本身很好吃,個人覺得配松阪豬應該更適合。
甜點。檸檬塔跟提拉米蘇。檸檬塔的醬相當好吃,搭配類似炸餛飩皮,口感也不錯。提拉米蘇是用布朗尼代替手指餅乾,可能這樣備餐比較簡單。布朗尼有淋咖啡跟酒,但不夠多或不平均,感覺整個浸下去再組合會更濕潤好吃。奶油部分也蠻好吃的。
飲料。奶茶跟美式咖啡。兩者表現都不錯,高於預期。
禮拜一的晚餐去的,兩個人加服務費共3707。老實說以餐點表現來說,會覺得有點不值得這個價格,更何況是在苑裡田中間,理論上少掉北部的租金,應該可以端出更合理的內容。個人樂見這種想把在地食材跟西式料理結合的fine...
