Sultanbey — Restaurant in Dushanbe

For such a beautiful place, customer service must be controlled. Had dinner on 26/02/23. Ordered lamb, tea, appetizers, salad and a dessert “Katmer with 1 ball of chocolate ice cream”. we didn’t have enough spoons and forks.

When they brought Katmer: It was colder then it should be No chocolate ice cream 2 balls of white ice creams I asked, we ordered for chocolate ice cream, why it has white ones? The guy told us that they didn’t have chocolate ice cream, then left. We asked to take it back, and bring the one that we ordered. After 5-10 minutes they brought the same dessert, white ice cream was taken off (you could clearly see the left overs), but poured with chocolate ice cream (they didn’t have it, no😅). Politely asked to call our waiter. An administrator came, I wanted to tell him what happened, he clearly ignored me, and told, quote “I’m not going to listen to you, if you want me to change it, I’ll change it for you”. I said yes.

Then the administrator brought the dessert, and asked in a calm, but very impolite manner “is it ok now? Do you have any problems” or something like that. I was mad, but just ignored his attitude in order not to spoil my night, and said “it’s good”. Credits must be given, katmer was good.

Beautiful restaurant that offers an exceptional feeling. Clean, nice and well decorated. But I come away with a very bad feeling. At lunch we received several dishes not ordered. One instance in particular angers me till now. My friend ordered a glass of fresh orange juice I ordered a lemonade. My drink came with the meal but his took a long time. Finally the orange juice came and it was in a large glass container. We were a bit surprised as it was bigger than expected. But trusted the system as he pointed to the menu when ordering. When the bill came they charged equivalent of 7 orders of juice rather than the 1 ordered. I protested and even spoke with the manager. The waiter lied and said we ordered the larger version. Finally the restaurant sided with the waiter and demanded we pay an exhorbinant price for a glass of juice ordered. Lesson. Do not trust this place. I suspect they did similar tricks to my only other time there with a small group as the bill was at least 25% over what we ordered. The food is tasty, but it is not an honest restaurant. Booked the place for family dinner during iftar time on 02 April 2023. The service was decent, and the food was good. However, the fresh vegetables and fruits were mediocre, not fresh, and that during the spring time in Tajikistan, it was surprising. My 2nd remarks would be more cultural and not complaints but oriented towards management. The reservation was for iftar time to break the fast, as I've mentioned above, we were 20 family members, inspite that every meal: starters, salads, main dishes, deserts were ordered directly from restaurant's menu and paid in full, to my question whether the Sultanbey is offering anything during Ramadan time as gesture of "good islamic tradition" as complimentary "on the table, the answer was "no we dont". Majority restaurant's in Dushanbe of such standards as Sultanbey, and even less known, were offering small plates of sweets and glass of water as complimentary.
