We stayed two nights in a 4 bed safari tent with our 10-year old son. The tent was big and very clean. The food at the restaurant was good.
The accommodation is just outside the Jozani national park, and in the evenings we were entertained by groups of Red Colobus and Sykes monkeys playing right next to our tent. We actually saw more monkeys in lodge's garden than during a breakneck speed guided tour in the park.
Nearby is also a reptile park with giant turtles roaming free. The guides have been trained from the local community: our guide, an elderly man, was well informed and the visit was unhurried.
People working at the lodge were really friendly and helpful, and Mr Hassan, who runs the place, was very interesting to talk with. He has a clear vision what tourism in Zanzibar should be like: sustainable and environmentally friendly, not putting too much pressure on the island's limited resources (fresh water, plastic pollution, electricity etc) and benefitting local people and their communities.
Rather than a quick few hours visit from Stone Town or east coast, this place deserves at least one night's stay to appreciate the calmness, the nature and the night sounds from the forest without a hurry. Highly...

Read moreWe booked to stay for 3 nights and asked to extend for one more night. We were the only guests and were eating and drinking at their restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner plus the drinks etc. So yesterday we ordered a seafood platter for two and we received very little rice definitely not enough for 2. So we asked for some more. When bill came we were charged for the extra rice but we thought that that's not fair as the platter is supposed to feed 2 and we got the rice that we get for 1 person's dish. The young girl that is the owner's daughter and pretends to manage the customers and their needs got obviously upset. She said that we cannot stay the extra night that we requested and she gave us back the money for the third night. So basically she kicked us out . Food is good but very small portions. They don't have a clue about looking after their customers even though they barely have any. They prefer to kick away customers that would stay for two more nights and eat and drink at their place for a bit of rice. Go and figure yourselves if you should go to this place or...
