Malila Cafe and Restaurant — Restaurant in Amnat Charoen Province

Other reviewers have said that you don't expect a quality restaurant like this in a small out-of-the way city like Amnat Charoen. But I found the owner had spent 10 years in Australia and that broadened the culinary horizons from Isaan food. The restaurant itself is beautiful, in fact there are two restaurants, the first is Werstern and Thai and the second is Korean BBQ (yep, cook it yourself at the table - I can never understand why you pay restaurant prices to cook it yourself but never mind). The décor, furniture, gardens and decorations are great. There is even a collection of indigenous Australian art. Now the food, I had chicken schnitzel with fries, salad and a delicious creamy sauce. The excellent salad had a light balsamic dressing, the fries were perfect and not skinny However the schnitzel was good but not great. Maybe sliced too thin to cook fast. But in fact, neither the schnitzel or fries were oily at all so the oil must have been very hot which is a good indicator of quality. My Thai wife's spicy salmon salad was excellent and she ate it all and she is a small eater. It was the larger size too. Finished with lemon ice cream (that was really lime) with sweet cubed mango and two lattes which were all very good. Good service. The menu looks great, I want to try the beef hamburger. Looks good for steak lovers. Update: Feb 10 2020 I went back to try the beef hamburger. Malila cafe was the best restaurant we've been to in Thailand. The food was excellent. The service was also premium. My wife ordered thai specialties and declared that if they were located in our home city our eating choices would overwhelmingly be with them. Thailand has some very good coffee, this is not the place to get some. Ok, it's a restaurant and a Cafe but do not offer milk coffees like cappuccino and lattes if you can not make them. My latte resembled dirty water and the taste was pretty much that. Pretty much an instant coffee with hot water and carnation milk. On the upside, it is a nice place with good i door and outdoor seating. Oh well, off to roll the coffee dice...
