Like the restaurant, I live “in the middle of nowhere” (well in the middle of Soi Boring tbh), and was looking for new places to experience since our local fave Hong Bao (on a gas station forecourt) closed down whilst we were away (how rude!). I found a Whale on google and the reviews are all 5* so we decided to get in the 4WD and brave the back streets of Srinakarin. The greeting was charming - from the security guard who let me park farang style (nose forward), to the charming greeter at the door who showed us to our table right next to a VIP group of “Influencer” ladies complete with lots of make up and special portable photography equipment, watching them perform was very educational.
I was recommended a starter by the (new) waitress but ordered the octopus instead, I didn’t regret it at all, it was delicious. My friend/colleague “P” did not have a starter so shared mine, it was not small, but was a “starter” so not too much to take the edge off my appetite.
P ordered the beef cheeks with linguine and I ordered the beef short ribs which the (new) waitress recommended thoroughly, she explained that the short ribs available were about 360 grams including the bone so not too heavy.
I asked the (new) waitress to make sure the beef cheeks and ribs came together as a main course so that P and I would be eating at the same time.
The beef cheeks were startlingly good (I tried P’s as my short ribs hadn’t yet appeared) and after he had polished them off the (new) waitress came to ask what we’d like for dessert, I requested Short Ribs.
Shock horror, the poor lass had forgotten to place the order with the chef ( there was a lot of Influencing and VIPing and other “Thonglor” behaviour going on around us so it’s somewhat understandable).
Lily (ex Thonglor) the lovely manager came over and fixed things for the hungry farang with free “Killer” cocktails - like a supercharged Negroni - fantastic!!
Then the Danish Chef “Nick” came out and apologized and to everyone’s credit nobody blamed the poor waitress as it was her first day! Nick very kindly apologized and gave me a gift voucher for my next visit, which will be very soon, can’t wait to taste the fabled Short ribs!
Go to a Whale as soon as possible please, we don’t want it to “do a Hong Bao” on us & don’t forget to bring your chauffeur (or Grab) so that you can sample The Killer, you won’t be able to resist...
Read moreKnow this restaurant from a friend who dined in this restaurant last week and they really like it. I came tonight with my friend quite far but not a problem the GPS is navigating easily. When we arrived we were very impress by the chandelier hanging in the middle of the restaurant just so lovely . The manager and the team ready to greet us at the door. The decoration is like a fine dining restaurant, yet the staff were very friendly. Before we going the our table the manager offer us to take us to the kitchen tour to see all process of their fermentation selection. It is impressive how they do it, it like a lab of education. On the menu have so many selection we ops for bread first the pastry here was incredible they told us that the person who is the head chef from Denmark and have Thai head chef work together. Next we have Eggplant salad was really good very creative, The hamachi was out of the world and beef tartare was good as well. For main we have Lamb 2 styles this is amazing, dry aged duck breast is incredible as well. For dessert we have Chocolate cake with mouse and was very good and they gave us the complimentary caramel Icecream and Mango this is my favourite. We have white wine with our meal which is good and reasonable price. We definitely come back here...
Read moreAnother exquisite location discovered in my favorite city. Today’s dinner was at a Whale Restaurant Bangna, a luxurious restaurant with authentic food, cozy atmosphere, a stunning interior design and a wide selection of wines.
As soon as you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the welcoming staff and ushered into the huge dining hall with its hanging lights and marble table. I really love the way everything is set up.
We had:
🦪 Scallops Crudo 🐟 Chevice 🍚 Baked Mushrooms and Sunchoke rice 🍝 Linguine Wagyu Cheeks 🍰 Baked Dark Choc Mouse ‘a la Marcelo’ 🍷 Sangiovese (to wash everything down)
Everything was scrumptious, cooked to perfection and presented in a way to make your foodie Instagram shots looking perfect.
We particularly enjoyed the Scallops, the baked mushrooms rice and the Linguine 🤤
Price wise, it’s not too expensive considering the attention to details and atmosphere. Best for dates, anniversary and even private events as they have a huge private VIP room with its own bar and chef.
Want to thank all the staff and the chef for the great night. Definitely...
