In short: Overly salty & expensive food, arrogant & poor service, not inclusive and many rules, only the atmosphere was fine as it’s right by the sea
Full review: I was there with my parents (both are in their late sixties) and we ordered both from the restaurant and cafe. Food: overly salty, resulting in the entire family being extremely thirsty hours after, making me questioning their choice of ingredients (MSG?). The worst part is the restaurant’s rule that customers can’t request for any modification of ingredients, and there was no waitress for us to ask about the ingredients as all orders need to be made online. Not sure how they could support people with allergies — for us we simply have to go with the safer options where we have some ideas about the ingredients. Price: Foods are expensive comparing to the quality and portion that we got; for instance, garlic fried fish was around 4xx baht whereas the normal price even in Bangkok range from 300-380 baht in the same type of restaurant. What’s even worse is to me an attempt to overcharge customers — the restaurant would by default add beverages to the order even if we didn’t order or open them, and there’s a button for customers to manually request for adjustment before getting the bill via their online system. Service: Service is the worst part of our experience there. At the cafe when picking our coffee, we encountered a guy who seems like the supervisor/manager; we were shocked by how arrogant and poor service he provided. I asked for a straw for the iced coffee as there was no lid or any alternatives to control the flow of the drink, especially for my mom who recently had surgery. His reply was “it’s better to spill the drink than causing global warming”; I was stunned! I find it unreasonable as there are eco-friendly options to control flow of the drink and preventing elders/kids from choking or spilling; simply not providing options and replying in an arrogant way is not acceptable. While sitting there finishing our drinks, the same guy made a comment to another customer, saying “why are you, a teenager, still use cash instead of e-payment?”. There was no sign saying cash is not accepted and this comment is totally unnecessary but simply again showing his arrogance. After all, I believe this explains why other staffs or his subordinates were also providing...
Read moreI visited Sailom Bangpu, an authentic Thai restaurant by the deep sea, where a cool breeze continuously blows. My top tip is to arrive around 11:00 AM or slightly earlier to easily find parking close to the restaurant and get a table without waiting in line. I arrived at 11:25 AM and could still pick a table with a sea view, exactly what you were aiming for. By noon, the queue for tables stretched like a long snake outside the restaurant, with no chairs available for waiting customers. Food & Drinks The Thai food here is described as average in taste. The jumbo crab meat was incredibly fresh, but quite pricey. The Tom Kha Gai (chicken galangal soup) came in a large pot with a ceramic burner to keep it hot, but the soup lacked straw mushrooms. The fruit som tum (fruit salad) was a large, well-balanced dish, customizable to my preference. The stir-fried barramundi with celery featured large fish pieces, lightly battered and fried before being stir-fried. The crab fried rice was prepared in a Thai style, but didn't have much of a "wok hei" (smoky wok flavor). Service & System The restaurant's system is quite efficient. Customers order directly from their mobile phones after scanning a QR code. The order details allow for customization, such as selecting the exact number of chilies you want. Area Overview The entire area hosts three main establishments and one workshop: Bangpu Banana Crepe Shop (ร้านขายขนม เครปกล้วย บางปู): Famous for banana crepes, banana cakes, and brownies. At 11:30 AM, the queue was short, but it gets very long by noon and in the afternoon. It's recommended to buy your treats early. Sailom Bangpu (ร้านสายลม บางปู): The Thai restaurant I reviewed. Afternoon Bangpoo (ร้าน afternoon Bangpoo): An open-air cafe. Workshop: Offers materials for purchase, followed by a painting session with guidance provided. The price includes all materials and equipment. Weekends are very busy and chaotic...
Read moreJust… love love love this place!! Went there for lunch after spending morning at the muwan boran that is about 10 mins from the restaurant. The restaurant is quite big with many seating areas but all are decorated very nicely with lots of ceramics with creative design. The place is so interesting with its colourful and cool cute design to details, food that is sent from the kitchen all the way on the belt conveyer and delivered to you with robot. The place is so open giving great view of water- we were there for early afternoon but probably the sunset can be seen from there? Good selection of food, which is tad expensive but the quality of food were all good. We ordered seafood curry, coconut shoot somtam, squid and prawn cakes. Coconut shoot somtam was a must try if you like somtam! Adjacent to the restaurant there is a cafe ( connected) which has better dessert menu. Closer to the car park, they also have a small cafe that sells ceramics. They are all one of a kind and so cute. This is a place you can spend hours (and $$$ 555) if you love ceramics. Also another point to mention was their policy on plastic waste. No straws, no single use plastic container provided for take away. I hate to see a huge amount of plastic waste In Thailand so this attitude impressed me.
This has become my favorite place to visit and recommend to anyone who loves and appreciate the craftsmanship. Will go...
