First off, let me say I love this restaurant. Excellent coffee and food are the norm and the location I usually visit is rural country south of the city, Bella Goose Cafe on the Pond, so it's a pleasant and serene setting. After discovering their wonderful coffee last year I've been buying my custom roasted coffee beans from their roastery.
I have one complaint though and it's my hope that this review will have an effect. I often eat breakfast at Bella Goose and the one I like best, the BG Breakfast set, includes a lovely buttermilk biscuit to accompany the fresh fruit, eggs and bacon. It comes with butter and jam, a nice touch. Unfortunately, the "butter" isn't butter but margarine or possibly some sort of blend. I eat the biscuit of course but every time I do I wonder how much better it would taste if the spread had been real butter instead of what was supplied.
Service can be a bit spotty too. When I'm alone, my food is always served quickly and with a smile. But if I've brought other people along, one of us might be served after only a few minutes while others in the party might have to wait 15-20 minutes. This seems to be a Thai thing because it happens in many other Chiang Mai restaurants so I can't call out Bella Goose as a lone offender. It's not a deal-breaker either.
All in all, this is a great place to eat, the servers are always friendly, the food and...
Read moreBella Goose Cafe on the Pond is a gorgeous new Cafe tucked away among the quiet rice fields and canals of Pa Daet. The bright and spacious dining area open out to a quiet pond that creates a peaceful atmosphere for meeting, studying, or gathering with friends for a cup of coffee.
The coffee is excellent. I enjoyed a simple hot latte with no sugar. The coffee was rich and delicious without being overstated. My wife's salted caramel latte was sweet and creamy. Our kids had fruit smoothies and iced Thai tea. Every one of them raved about their drinks.
There are lots of amazing cafes in the Chiang Mai area, but one of things that makes Bella Goose shine is their food. The menu is the same as the Bella Goose downtown location. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. The sausage gravy includes caramelized onions that give it an extra pop of flavor. My son devoured his breakfast burrito. Poor guy had to defend his plate as his mother and sisters kept sneaking tastes of his food! We passed around a cinnamon roll that had a gooey cinnamon filling to die for. And my daughters enjoyed absolutely gorgeous smoothie bowls. Each of these dishes were sizeable portions. They aren't just cafe snacks...they're legit meals!

Read moreVery nice family-friendly coffee shop, a good quality products, and a small offer of Thai food and burgers. My surprise was that the corner for the children is not inside - connected with the coffee shop as the entrance is using a lateral sliding door on the side of the building. When you are in the baby corner with your kid, you have to go out and walk around the building to go inside the cafeteria, and order. A bell to call for service will be a good idea. The staff does not know what type of coffee they sell but only knows the three levels of toast for the grains. When I asked if it was Arabica or Robusta the cashier had no idea what I was talking about. In general, it is a nice quiet, and cute coffee shop that could be improved. And they told me that. They also told me that a large cappuccino has 4 shoots of coffee, hence I had to take the small one, since never in my life have tried a cap with 4 shoots...
