Fine dining with stained tablecloths and difficult access.
I guess the concept of the restaurant is that you focus on the food. But to enjoy the "fine dining experience" you have to get there first. It is located in a shaby area far out of town. To enter the restaurant from the parking lot taller people have to watch their head as they hang their sign so low that they might hit their head. An irregular paved path takes you through a garden which could need some attention.
Once you enter the restaurant which is themed in a rustic-industrial design, you will wonder what makes washed-cement floors so special in Chiang Mai. We have seen the same design in many coffee shops around town and it might make sense there but some quality and uniqueness in the design would add to a unique dining experience. The tablecloths are as badly taken care of as the garden at the entrance and full of stains. The old window frames could be unique but for right now they are just old and full of dust.
If after the inital impression you still feel like ordering food, you will find out that there is nothing to order, no menu and no information on prices. They only serve a "chef´s table" menu, which is a 15 course-menu and the price will stay a secret until you order the bill. Love it or leave it. You have the choice of 2 white and 2 red wines, none of them bad but with 2200 thb overpriced. We opted for the Santa Duc Les Vieilles Vignes 2015, a wine which retails for around $17 in the US. They served the red wine ice cold and my wish to have a red wine at a regular serving temperature was replied with that I have to wait for the wine to warm up.
At some point I have asked for some salt and was brought an ugly McCormick salt grinder which goes quite well with the cement floor and the stained tablecloths.
Some of the food is served on pebble stones and other decoration that they might consider original or artistic. I find it simply irritating to search for my food on pebble stones and be impressed by gimmicks like foams fried in dry ice. On the positive side all of the food served is prepared with attention to the detail and a variety of interesting flavors.
The bill for the two menus and a bottle of regular table wine was 6400 THB. They have added to their prices 10% service charge and 7% tax, something unexpected in Chiang Mai.
Is it worth it? Maybe for nouveau riche Thais or unexperienced travellers who are looking for options to spend their budget by all means. If you are looking for a unique dining experience or want to experience the flavors of Northern Thai cuisine, there are far better options...
Read moreJust had my second visit to Cuisine de Garden in Chiang Mai, and I must say — the evolution over the past year and a half is remarkable. The food has grown more mature, confident, and conceptually focused.
Chef Nan clearly has a deep understanding of flavor metrix and the mouthfeel concept — beautifully demonstrated in dishes like the salt-cured fish with granita, where temperature and texture contrast are handled with finesse.
Though the foundation is New Nordic, the cuisine leans heavily on Thai ingredients, elevated through European technique, offering genuinely exciting and rare flavor profiles that are hard to come by elsewhere.
The ambiance is excellent, supported by a high-quality sound system and a curated playlist that subtly enhances the dining rhythm. The wine list may be compact, but selections are well-priced and thoughtfully chosen.
Service is polished, warm, and well above its price point — a rare find in this segment.
A sincere congratulations to the team. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Chiang Mai. Wishing you continued success and creative...
Read moreOriginally I come with great expectation because of the comments I saw online and also with this price in chiang mai, I was expecting a very good meal here.
The staff’s attitude is good, the environment is spacious, but don’t know why just felt a bit weird. Start from the first plate to the last, everything is very well displayed and so instagramable ,but the taste is not as good as expected, it is over complicated , just like mixing everything together but u can’t taste the real taste of the food, every dish is indescribable and the vibe of the environment is also not comfortable for us.
The staff said they will change the menu three times a year, not sure if we are just unlucky this time. Staffs are trying to present their nice attitude but u can definitely tell they are a bit nervous and not very familiar with what they are doing. Overall I would not recommended and it is definitely not a restaurant that I felt I...
