Ohkajhu Sansai: A Chiang Mai Must-Visit for Fresh, Farm-to-Table Dining
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're looking for a dining experience in Chiang Mai that is as wholesome and refreshing as it is delicious, look no further than Ohkajhu Sansai. This isn't just a restaurant; it's a destination.
The Ambience: A Green Oasis Located a short drive from the city center in the Sansai district, the restaurant feels like a welcome escape. You dine surrounded by the very hydroponic gardens that supply your meal. The space is open, airy, and beautifully designed with natural wood and lush greenery. It’s peaceful, family-friendly, and perfect for a long, relaxed lunch. You can even take a stroll through the neat rows of lettuce and herbs after your meal.
The Food: The Star of the Show Ohkajhu’s philosophy is "farm-to-table," and you can absolutely taste the difference. The ingredients are spectacularly fresh and crisp. The menu is vast, cleverly blending hearty Western dishes with lighter, zestier Thai options, all centered around their incredible organic produce.
The Salads are Legendary: This is what they are famous for. The portions are enormous—easily enough for two to share. The "Ohkajhu Special Salad" with its signature creamy sesame dressing is a must-try. The mix of textures from the fresh greens, crispy bacon, nuts, and soft-boiled egg is perfection. Beyond Salad: Don't be fooled into thinking it's just a salad bar. Their pasta dishes, like the rich and creamy truffle mushroom pasta, are excellent. The grilled meats and ribs are also highly praised for their quality and flavor. For Everyone: Whether you're a carnivore, a vegetarian, or a health-conscious eater, the menu has something wonderfully satisfying for you.
Service & Value: The staff are attentive and friendly, happy to explain dishes and make recommendations. Given the quality and the massive portion sizes, the prices are very reasonable and offer great value for money.
Final Verdict: Ohkajhu Sansai is more than just a meal; it's an experience. It’s the perfect place for a healthy yet indulgent feast, a family gathering, or for anyone who appreciates knowing exactly where their food came from. It’s easily one of the top culinary highlights of Chiang Mai and is absolutely worth the trip.
Pro Tip: Come hungry, and definitely come with friends so you can order a few different dishes to share! It can get busy on weekends, so an early lunch is...
Read moreCame to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, as last year we had a lunch after our signatures so we wanted to start a tradition of going there every year. I guess this will not happen and here is why. At the moment of booking we got promised a corner table, which we didn’t have. It was not a central table but not a corner either, but that’s okay. Among the three dishes we ordered they were out of stock of two. That also can happen. We ordered two more dishes and they came back to tell us they ran out of one of them later on. I started getting quite nervous about it and I asked then to be shown what they DID have on the menu. I opted for another dish and not even 1 minute later my wife’s food arrived (of course they had time to cook it in the meantime I had to change my order twice). We requested the ribs to be not spicy and we had them covered in hot sauce. At the beginning of the dinner we got promised free ice cream because of our advanced booking. As you may imagine.. they came to tell us they ran out of ice cream. They replaced it with coconut Thai dessert without consulting us or asking for a preference. Considering the whole story and that they have selection of dessert I would have believed they would at least given us a choice. But no, they served us whatever they found fit, like a tired mother with a grumpy kid. It’s time for the check and here I believe we crossed a line when they printed the summary and the free dessert was charged on the bill. After pointing that out, they obviously took it off the total. All of this happened without hearing a single apology. I do not understand how people can find messing up a table so much a normal thing to do. We didn’t hear a single apology from the floor manager, but of course I heard her RAISE HER VOICE AT ME when I asked her to tell me what they had on the list because I was kind of tired of the ping pong. It’s a pity because this was the place we ate for the first time after getting officially married. They didn’t ruin our night but it wasn’t a pleasant experience, especially considering that the price range is mid high. Good quality...

If you love fresh food, beautiful gardens, and cozy places to relax, Ohkajhu Sansai is a must-visit. This organic farm and restaurant feels like a peaceful countryside escape, just a short drive from the city.
We started our meal with the Truffle Mushroom Soup, and it was unforgettable — rich, creamy, fresh, and full of deep flavor. I could easily come back just for the soup alone!
For the main course, I had the Spicy Beef Pasta. The beef was amazing — thick, juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The sauce was creamy and perfectly seasoned. Every bite was delicious!
Even the drinks are special here — colorful, pretty, and just as tasty as they look.
What makes Ohkajhu even more wonderful is everything beyond the food: – There is a small shop where you can buy fresh produce and baked goods (the bakery items sell out fast!). – Different seating areas offer beautiful views of gardens and farms. – There’s even a natural play area for children, making it a great place for families. – You can walk around and see the fresh lettuce and vegetables growing right there on the farm. – Even the bathroom is charming and full of plants!
The whole space is very well designed, with fresh air, natural beauty, and many perfect spots for taking pictures.
Tip: Come early if you want to get the best choice of bakery items, and don’t forget your camera — you’ll want to...
