Located on the 5th floor of CentralPlaza Rama III, AKA Yakiniku Korean & Japanese BBQ isn't just a restaurant, it's a culinary destination that consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience. For my wife and me, it's one of our absolute favourite places, a place I make sure to visit at least once every time I'm in Thailand.
From the moment you walk into AKA, you're greeted with a vibrant atmosphere that lives up to its name, "Aka" meaning "red" – a symbol of the fiery charcoal stoves that are central to their authentic Japanese Yakiniku and Teppanyaki style. This commitment to quality is evident in every bite.
The food here is simply amazing. The variety is fantastic, ensuring there's something for everyone, and everything tastes delicious. The service is excellent, making every visit a smooth and enjoyable one. While prices have seen a slight rise in recent years, AKA Yakiniku remains incredibly competitive, offering fantastic value for the premium experience you receive.
Let's talk about the star of the show: the beef. The quality of the beef is truly outstanding. They pride themselves on sourcing top-tier cuts, like their Premium Beef Tenderloin and Australian Beef Tenderloin, which are grain-fed for 100 days, resulting in beautifully marbled meat with a soft texture and rich, aromatic flavor. Grilling it on AKA Japanese charcoal grills, which are designed with high-quality hoods to minimize smoke, truly enhances the natural taste of the meat.
And of course, grilled meat needs a good sauce on the side. AKA's sauces are absolutely delicious. Their signature sauce is a masterful blend, slow-boiled with soy sauce, sake, kombu seaweed, and over ten other ingredients, creating a smooth, rich taste that complements all grilled food. And don't forget their amazing chilli sauce.
Beyond the delicious grilled meats, there are three absolute must-try items that, in my opinion, AKA does better than anywhere else in Bangkok: their wakame salad, kimchi, and pickled radish. I've tried these at many other restaurants, but AKA's versions truly stand out from the competition. They are simply the best.
For a perfect finish to your meal, don't miss their lemon shots. They're a fantastic palate cleanser after all that delicious BBQ.
AKA Yakiniku is operated by AKA Interfoods Co., Ltd., a part of the Zen Corporation Group, which boasts over two decades of experience in the Japanese food business in Thailand. Their slogan, "PASSION FOR GRILL," truly shines through in their dedication to being the best ingredient recruiter and ensuring every moment at AKA is the best time for their customers. With over 17 branches now offering both à la carte and buffet services, their commitment to quality and expansion is clear.
