Khao Yai Restaurant — Restaurant in Ko Lanta Yai

As of October 2020 Khao Yai restaurant has been completely remodeled with an absolutely amazing bamboo roof and all new interior. Popular for its stunning mountain views over to the Eastern islands off the coast of Lanta it is now a completely different place. Its like hanging out in a fancy hotel lobby that wouldn't look out of place in a high-end hotel in Bangkok, but with better views.

The restaurant has always been a popular stop for people exploring the island on a moped due to its location on a mountain top heading west to east on Lanta but the newly remodeled place has to be seen to be believed - my photos don't do it justice. The 'old' Khao Yai was just another non-descript Thai restaurant that just happened to have great views, and great for a pit stop on the way to someplace else. The 'new' Khao Yai is a place that I'd go for dinner, or hangout in for an afternoon. The building has been completely transformed, it really has to be seen to be believed.

They have a new chef, the food is excellent. There's a selection of cakes and deserts that are to die for - the cashew nut brownie is highly recommended.

Nestled along the route to Koh Lanta Old Town, Khao Yai Restaurant is a true hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The building's bamboo structure not only adds to its visual appeal but also creates a natural and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant's strategic location provides a beautiful viewpoint, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely meal. We particularly enjoyed the good vibes and relaxed ambiance that permeated the entire place.

Upon arrival around 11:30 am, we were pleased to find the restaurant blissfully uncrowded, allowing us to choose a comfortable spot upstairs. The unobtrusive charm of the surroundings made our dining experience all the more enjoyable, and we felt like we had discovered a serene oasis away from the more bustling parts of Koh Lanta.

It is my third time to have meal in this restaurant, but today I must give a ONE star for the extremely bad attitude of one woman staff of this restaurant. When we want to order a cuisine , we don’t know the Thai name , so we try to explain, but that woman staff was extremely unpleasant and kept asking us “can you speak English ? If you don’t speak English I don’t know what you want .’ And then gave us a wrong cuisine , and complain me that it was because of I could not speak English . We said we don’t want that , then she used Thai language to complain with her colleague .( we can understand what she was talking from some words) At last when we want to check the bill , she told us the wrong cuisine was cancelled with a very bad attitude , like “ who can speak English ? I said that cuisine has been cancelled ‘. I really don’t know why she was like so arrogantly , we really like this restaurant before , but we are sure that we will never go again.
