A lovely idea of the raised walkway, restaurant and beautiful landscaped gardens in a fairly tranquil location but, regrettably, there is an *entrance fee (duel pricing too as is common practice in Thailand) and the welfare of the animals is cause for concern.
I am not an 'animal activist' but I do care about how animals are kept in captivity and to have magnificent parrot species chained to their perches and 2 young lion cubs penned up in a 5m diameter cage is not fair and certainly not humane ! My 1yr old Golden retriever ( a domestic and not wild animal) gets more daily exercise than the lion cubs will get in months (unless, of course, the owner arranges for off-site exercise time for them). Most zoos these days, at least, have giant compounds for their big cats containing rocks, trees and other vegetation and a water feature - a move in the right direction re. the welfare of the animals.
To the Cafe owner....... if you are going to politely reply to this review. then please do not just write the same paragraph as you have done to many other contributors. I am sure the animals are well fed and watered, etc and that you have a valid licence to house them but that does nothing to detract from the very poor quality of their surroundings.
I thought that an 'attraction' was designed to 'attract' customers to create better business but not to be confronted with a fee for the privilege of visiting for something to eat and drink.
For the record I am a 'farang' but reside in Ao Nang and will not visit Baan Chang again and neither will I prompt any of my visitors / guests...
Read moreAVOID this place if you have any love for animals! Please Don’t Support Animal Cruelty at Baan Chang Cafe, Krabi I strongly urge everyone to avoid Baan Chang Cafe in Krabi. Despite appearing like a charming animal-themed café, the reality behind the scenes is heartbreaking. The elephants here are chained and kept in confined areas, showing clear signs of distress. Even worse, the lions are underfed and held in extremely small enclosures, unable to move freely or express natural behaviors. Thailand is known for its deep Buddhist values of compassion and respect for all living beings, yet this establishment does the exact opposite. It turns animal suffering into a spectacle for tourists. There is nothing ethical, educational, or kind about the way these animals are treated. If you care about animals, please don’t support this place. Choose one of Krabi’s many reputable, cruelty-free sanctuaries or nature experiences instead—places that truly protect and care for animals rather than...
Read morePlease do not visit this place. Elephants, Lions and other animals are both physically and mentally abused to entertain them. They live in constant fear.
They claim in their replies to negative reviews that there are certified by animal authorities. Probably only Thai authorities since animal abuse seems to be no problem in Thailand. Worldwide organisations (for example WWF, United Nations, World Animal Protection) do strongly discourage these practices.
Many positive reviews are from people who do not have the knowledge about how bad this is. I hope they will be properly educated one-day. Take a look at the pictures from other reviews and think about the sad lives for these animals. A parrot should not be locked to a chain.
These practices should stop. Please support other places where they do not abuse animals. Please read about this and inform yourselves. Elephants should only be looked at when they are able to roam freely. For example Following Giants Krabi is a good...
