š The place: It looks exactly like all the small family restaurants you've seen in the streets. No music, which is better than bad and loud music.. Inside have A/C and fans, outside have fan too, inside will be more quiet because the road leads to Ao Nang beach. Toilets are traditional shower combo, clean, soap but no towel, the usual. The owner is also the front server, he has a good English and such a SWEET person! š You can totally discuss the plates and ask questions about it, that's a big plus if you want to discover new food!
š½ļø The food: At the time of my review they have nearly 100 reviews and 5stars, you don't get there by mistake especially in touristic area... The food is excellent, everytime I ordered a dish it ended up the best version I've ever had. It is cooked in the kitchen outside, by your order, I can tell because my Khasta Samosa took some time to be ready, usually other restaurants serve them in 5 minutes, from the freezer...š The spicy meals like chicken tikka masala are like they should be! The menu is huge too, from pizza, pasta, thai rice/noodle, the highlight is Indian food because they are Bangladesh/Indian family, there's no chance you don't find something to eat.
š¹Their mango lassi.. simply the best, I don't know how they make the iced yogurt sooo smooth, it's a mango ice cream! Just try a lassi as a desert actually..?
š²The price: At first I thought it was a bit more expensive than usual because of Ao Nang, now I can tell there's more to it. First, yes there's MORE! It's basically between x1.5 and x2 the portion.. You could always ask smaller dishes if you've had breakfast not long ago, but a small dish is still going to feed you trust me! And then there's just more taste, more crispyness, more meat, more choice.. it's just so worth it and it's still Thailand prices so I'm not saying it's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI think this is one of the best halal food experiences Iāve had in Thailand since November 6th. We had a little difficulty finding the halal restaurant because there was no visible signboard for āBasmati Restaurant.ā However, we noticed the owners are a Muslim family, and I learned from the girl there that her father is Bangladeshi.
We hadnāt had any Bangladeshi food since November 6th, so we were eagerly looking for something with a Bangla food taste. We discovered this place through someone elseās review. Once we arrived, we ordered three dishes and four portions of rice for the two of us. It might sound like a lot, but honestly, we Bangladeshis tend to eat more rice compared to people in Thailand!
While I was looking forward to eating Bangla Thai mix food, we ended up trying some Thai dishes. We ordered a vegetable soup-like dish, one with chicken, and another with beef. Unfortunately, I forgot their names, but Iāve uploaded the menu for anyone whoās interested. You can also see pictures of the dishes we enjoyed.
Alhamdulillah, we were so happy with the food. The portions were generous, and we probably could have managed with two dishes and three portions of rice, but we had more than enough, Alhamdulillah. The restaurant is clean, quiet, and modestly set up with tin walls and no extra decorationsābut honestly, that didnāt matter. The food was absolutely delicious, and it was more affordable compared to other places.
We paid only 390 Baht for both of us, which is amazing! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for Bangladeshi restaurants or authentic halal food in Thailand.
I came here from Ao Nang Viva Resort, and Iām so glad I did. Love from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe owners are super-friendly -- with decades of experience in F&B. So, in addition to great food, this is also a great place to source for more information about Krabi.
In our opinion:
Location: a short walk from the Ao Nang Landmark Night Market - away from the bustle and more touristy area of Ao Nang.
For us, the Basmati Restaurant was a memorable...
