Some deep internet searching told me Nong Imm Pochana was a good place to go for Yunnanese food in Mae Salong, so I made it a priority to visit once I got to town. Definitely didn’t disappoint. My fiancé and I shared stir-fried shiitake mushrooms (subjectively excellent - I wish I could eat this dish every week), pickled cabbage stir-fried with pork (also fantastic, and speckled with roasted chilies), and tea leaf salad with minced pork. I was expecting more of a Burmese-style tea leaf salad with pickled leaves, but here they’re served fresh, giving the dish a little bitterness. Good, but not extraordinary.

The mantou we got were a surprise. I assumed they’d be plain mantou, but we got one that was green tea-flavored and another that was a lavender shade of purple and whose flavor remained a mystery. Those may have just been the last flavors left at the end of the day.

Everything here tasted great, although a little heavy. It’s definitely worthwhile to come here if you want to try Yunnanese food in Thailand. I’m sure the signature pork leg (ขาหมู) is awesome, too; we just didn’t have big enough appetites to throw down on another dish, let alone a huge stewed pork knuckle, at the time.

Note: the Thai menu has a few more dishes than the English menu, although the English menu has the “best hits,”...

The food here was wonderful. The braised pork was OMG tender and delicious, with bitter greens on the side. The morning glory was excellent, and the stirfried yellow noodles were really good.

The menu was only in Thai and Chinese, so we ordered without seeing any prices, which made us a little nervous -- but the prices were reasonable when we paid. More expensive than other places we ate in town, but this was easily three times the meat and all the other portions were generous, too.

It's a little tricky to find. Find the large decorative pot along the road, walk uphill into the parking lot, go around the modern building with the reflective windows on your left, and you'll find this little open-air restaurant...

Superb food and price was affordable. Luckily that we walked in early a bit before noon so just 15 mins after we sat people came in without reservation and had no table. So recommended to book before you came if you come in a big group as the restaurant was locals' favorite as well as recommended by many people.

We ordered pork knuckles with streamed buns, Yunnan style- stuffed eggs, and Tofu soup. We ordered small sizes which were much bigger than we thought. The portion for S size was more than enough for 2 people.

Food are awesome. Super worth the price as we paid only 525THB (15usd) for all these...
