Ying Ping Yunnan Restaurant is a standout spot for lovers of authentic Yunnan-style Chinese cuisine. Located in Mae Sai, this restaurant impresses right from the start with its clean, high-grade interior, comfortable seating, and a well-maintained atmosphere. Guests regularly comment on the cleanliness — “super clean including bathrooms” is a frequent praise.

The menu is extensive, offering many Yunnan and broader Chinese dishes, and it caters well for foreigners: photos and English translations are included, which helps for ordering. Signature dishes — especially hot‐and-sour soup, “เขาหยก” (a kind of Yunnan pork braised dish), mantou/hmantou (steamed or fried buns), and fish dishes such as steamed sea bass with egg white — are consistently praised for flavour, freshness, and generous portions. Many food items are considered excellent value for their quality.

Service is generally polite, attentive, and efficient, though there are occasional small lapses — for example, forgetting a dish here or waiting a bit longer than ideal. The staff are helpful, and many reviews note that special requests are handled well.

On the downside, the price point is somewhat higher than the simplest local options. While still reasonable for a quality restaurant of this kind, some diners feel cost vs. what’s expected could be off if you compare with very local-style eateries. Also, the location is a bit out of the main town flow, meaning if you don’t have private transport you may need to plan how to get there and back.

Overall, Ying Ping Yunnan is highly recommended. If you want genuine Yunnan flavours in a comfortable setting, it’s well worth visiting. Perfect for groups, restaurants with guests not familiar with Yunnan food, or when you want something special rather than casual...

It has been suggested that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Northern Thailand and this may be true. The food is all of a good standard, the decor and facilities are well above average and the service is ok. The food is primarily Yunnanese in flavour, but there are some standards from other Chinese styles of cooking.

The prices are high, but the food is very good, so it doesn't seem badly overpriced. Recommended...
