"Different flavor, but not to our like"
It depends on how you define good steak. If you are happy with Cocotte (Sukhumvit), Cagutte (Sathorn), Jamie's Burger (Phaholyothin) and El Guacho (Asoke), DON'T bother come here. It is simply not up to your standard.
What we ordered:
1 kg of 180-day dry aged Spanish-meat striploin in medium rare (approx B 2900) It came out in 'rare' rather than 'medium rare'. Even it was in rare form, it was tough and chewy. we had to spill some very chewy part out. It was indeed full flavored (as it was dry aged very long) but what you had to trade off was the tenderness. It tasted and smelled like traditional sun-dried Thai beef (เนื้อแดดเดียว). We tried to explain our dislike to the manager but she insisted that their beef was genuinely made and nowhere else provided you this kind of meat. well, nowhere else indeed provided us this kind of beef because they provided better beef.
300 g of Angus ribeye (B 890) To give one more chance, we did ordered another meat plate. It was better than the first dish but the meat was plain, not juicy. Not worth the calorie I would put on!
We are kind of people who appreciate USDA prime beef and Australian Wagyu A5+ but we wanted to try something different. We had high expectation on their dry aged meat but left the place with dissatisfaction.
We didn't mind spending money on good meals but this was not worth 6700 baht (including wine) and a...
Read moreGreat food at great value. Caesar salad was very generously done with perfectly poached egg on top. Burger was exceptionally “beefy” with great real cheese that isn’t the processed kind. The fries are some of the best we’ve ever had (we requested for extra crispy). The Australian Wagyu Prime was made perfectly to order: half medium-rare and the other half medium, and came with generous sides of grilled mushroom, zucchini and roasted garlic. The fat of the beef was perfectly grilled and very tasty but we couldn’t finish it all.
The great food and value was only topped by the wonderful service of the entire team of skilled and attentive but never obtrusive ladies, and Lady Butcher Khun Nat herself who brought the Prime Rib to our table. We also noticed the detail she put into even the condiments with beautiful mustard grains from France and elegant fleur de sel.
At the end of the dinner, she exceeded our expectations with a surprise dessert of lovely gelato topped with dark chocolate and pistachios.
Would have only been lovelier if the restaurant were not so far, and the music a little less energetic for an evening meal. But these are minor issues as Lady Butcher is certainly worth a journey to try for its great...
Read moreTwo of us had lunch. My friend had a steak, and I had a wagyu burger (although as it was described on the menu, I thought it would be a steak - not only from the description, but also the price!). They have interesting cuts of meat available and our expectations were hopeful as a result. Unfortunately, my friend’s steak was disappointing and not very tender. However, my wagyu burger was excellent. Problem there was my burger arrived at about the same time as my friend finished his steak, despite there only being four tables of patrons at the time. Waiter was friendly, but the kitchen obviously could use better organization. We left agreeing that Lady Butcher is trying and shows promising signs for future, based on cuts of meat, but they haven’t put it all together. For that reason, we will not be returning soon - maybe next year, to see if they’ve got it...
