Somewhere in between casual and elegant dining. Bright, spacious and very clean. Gorgeous ceiling. Pleasant jazz piano music (at first). Mostly seafood. Moderate price that exceeded the meticulous service. Menu in English also.
THB288 for a platter of raw extras and not exactly deep-fried crab rolls and dip. I wanted a beer but they had only large bottles. 139 baht was for a small platter of veggies.
Kingpin Baikaew is in a pitstop of many restaurants, laundromat, pharmacy, coffees shops and more. Not too far from airport if you have your own vehicle. From the cuisine and presentation I had the impression that this place caters to upper-middle class locals.
My only complaint is that at first I did not like the soft texture of the rolls. Or rather, my expectation was that they would be deep-fried rather than light-fried. The cooking was like the anticipated diner was a madam concerned about her diet. Beautiful, but not a chow-down meal. Let's call it a snack. But the crab was real and not extended with flour or what-not. To the main point, I had the vague impression that there was some pork somewhere in the making of the rolls or frying thereof. I told the waitress explicitly that I do not eat pig meat. I could be wrong, of course. Very tasty aftertaste and no upset stomach. Fifteen minutes later I could taste MSG. Then it hit me why I wasn't satisfied - zero seasoning. Black pepper and ginger would have added some kick.
No big deal, but there was no colour - pale rolls on crispy rice vermicelli and a garnish of grated white cabbage. Almost clear and slimy sweet dipping sauce. I would have preferred some hearty black Chinese rice vinegar or roasted sesame oil. A bit too subtle for me. If it's Chinese, it's Thai-Chinese (which would make sense).
Menu mentions fermented soy coconut dipping sauce with a platter of raw vegetables. I am tempted to give this eatery another chance. Nope - they charged me 3% to use my...
Read moreThe food here was excellent! We had fried calamari, fluffy egg omelette with crab and, the star of the show was the volcano shrimp, jumbo sized, a really good value at 50% off. We also had the stirfry morning glory with mushroom and to finish it all off, was coconut ice cream. Everything was cooked to perfection and totally delicious. The service could use a little help. One of the dishes we ordered arrived only after we had finished everything else; we had to remind them to make the fluffy crab omelette, so that was a minus. Staff was nice enough. I think they may lack a bit of training Overall 4 stars. Had the omelette arrived promptly with the other dishes it would be 5 stars. Give this place a try it’s...
