Jojo Seafood — Restaurant in Rayong Province

We really enjoyed our fried fish with a delicious chili sauce. However, service was not good and our inability to speak Thai posed some problems.

When we arrived we stood at the entrance for several minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. We were a party of two and all the tables looked like they were designed for groups of 8 or more. When we were greeted, all the tables were either occupied or hadn't been bussed so we were seated at a table covered with dirty dishes and leftover food. After a few more minutes, the lady that greeted us came by to clean our table and handed us one menu for the two of us.

The menu had pictures and English but it was very long and somewhat confusing. Once the table was cleaned, our waitress came to take our order. My wife ordered fried fish and handed me the menu, which I'd only glanced at. I had no idea what I wanted and needed more time, but I was simply unable to communicate to her that I didn't know what I wanted yet and she should come back in a few minutes. Instead, she stood right next to me while I thumbed through the menu awkwardly and hurriedly, and eventually I just picked grilled squid mainly as a way to get her to leave. Ironically, a few minutes later a different lady who could speak some English came by and tried to take our order, but I told her that we had already ordered. The first lady came by with takeout bags and our food on Styrofoam containers. I guess she had misinterpreted me and thought I was asking for takeout instead of time to look at the menu, but at least she understood that we wanted to eat at the restaurant and came back with plates.

Turned out that the fish my wife ordered was really good, the grilled squid was fine if bland. The squid came with a delicious sauce which was unfortunately, extremely spicy even for myself who has pretty good spiciness tolerance. Luckily the fried fish was big enough that we could share.

The environment was lively and noisy and the entire restaurant is outdoors. That unfortunately meant that we had to deal with a few mosquitoes during out meal.

I don't think I'd come back and wouldn't recommend this place to groups that can't place an order in Thai, but the food we had was very good and would be a decent choice for the adventurous types who don't mind...

You won't miss it from the road. Two large kangaroo statues flank the main entrance. It's a big premise with plenty of seats, and very cute stone statues all over. No air conditioning there though. Every dish was amazing. The stir fried clams in spicy garlic and ginger were sweet and juicy, indicative of its freshness. Highly recommend the marinated raw shrimp in soy sauce. The portion is generous for the price, and the shrimp is very fresh and sweet too. The spicy green chilli dipping sauce goes so well with this dish. Plenty of parking next to the restaurant.
