I have just visited Ranong Seafood Restaurant in Lam Luk Ka, Bangkok, and it was an absolute delight! The place has a cozy, rustic vibe with wooden tables that give it a charming, authentic Thai feel. We went on a cloudy day, but the weather was surprisingly good – cool and comfortable, perfect for enjoying a leisurely outdoor meal without the usual Bangkok heat. The food was outstanding and super fresh. I ordered a massive platter of steamed crab legs that were tender, juicy, and bursting with natural sweetness – definitely the highlight, served with a side of green chili sauce for dipping. They also had a whole crab stir-fried in some kind of creamy yellow sauce (maybe garlic butter or a Thai twist) that was rich and flavorful without being overwhelming. For appetizers, the banana leaf-wrapped parcel turned out to be a delicious crab or prawn filling with lemongrass and chili – aromatic and perfectly spiced. The fried rice was loaded with crab meat, egg, and veggies, fluffy and savory, and we finished with a comforting bowl of tom yum soup packed with mushrooms, herbs, and prawns. Everything was so well-seasoned and portion sizes were generous; the seafood tasted like it came straight from the sea that morning. Prices are excellent – way more affordable than similar spots in Pattaya, where everything feels overpriced and touristy. No hidden charges or upselling here; you get great value for top-quality ingredients. Plus, they accept card payments, which made settling the bill a breeze. A popular, local Thai seafood restaurant but with plenty of other popular Thai dishes, including kanok jean, at reasonable prices and worthy of a try. There are two sections to the restaurant. The front focuses on “Kanom Jean”, or fermented, fresh rice noodles, which you top with your choice of spicy sauce (a Thai/Chinese spaghetti, of sorts). The main one is “Nam Ya Pu”, which is spicy, almost curry sauce with crab meat. Another popular toping is green-curry which is “Kaeng Kaew Wan Talay” for the seafood variety which they serve here. Otherwise, the back section of the restaurant by a decent side pond focuses on serving seafoods.
