French Kiss Restaurant Review
To save you guys time, here is the chronological breakdown of our experience at this restaurant:
Environment: • Beautiful views and very cool decor • Lack of non-smoking areas is bothersome
Staff: • See below
Food: • Papaya salad was extremely delicious and is probably one of the best I’ve had in Thailand – great job! • Panang curry was watery but tasted fine
Price: • Number is on par with adjacent resort and hotel dining rooms (approx. 150-200 baht per dish) but you get less food
Experience: • Ordered papaya salad and chicken Panang curry • Major language barrier between waitress and party • Waitress misunderstood order despite me pointing at the dish we wanted and repeating the phrase “chicken Panang curry, large size, 230 baht”; she did not repeat what we ordered before sending it to the kitchen – she didn’t even it write it down on a NOTEPAD! When she brought out a dish of Pad Thai later, we insisted that we definitely DID NOT order this and she took it back after a minute of confusing conversation • We asked for 3 bowls of rice but she gave us an empty plate. • When we went to the front pay the bill, we were stunned by a 300 baht charge. The description for this is “Pad Thai”. We brought this up to the owner (Belgian, spoke and understood English well) and he said something along the lines of “YOU ordered it and didn’t want it so we had to throw it out”. I said that we simply cannot pay for something we didn’t order and that I was very clear about which item I wanted. If there is a problem, it is the waitress’ ability to comprehend. He then said “well either you pay or it’s my business’ loss”. I stood my ground as this was not our fault at all. He then scratched it off and mumbled “ok I’ll take the loss, thanks and have a good day” – in this context, I felt like the delivery was extremely passive aggressive. • Throughout that last bit, the owner insisted that it was MY FAULT for ordering the Pad Thai. I pointed out that I not only spoke slowly, repeated my order, but also pointed at the specific COST (i.e. 230 baht) of dish to waitress so she didn’t look at the wrong line. • It is also noteworthy to point out that the Pad Thai costed 200 baht instead of 300 baht, which leads me into thinking that the restaurant was trying to rip us off.
Verdict:
French Kiss is a restaurant with decent food and a stunning view. That said, one can easily find alternatives with better quality and portions at this price point. As mentioned above, my experience with management left a sour taste in my mouth. Guilt-tripping your customer definitely does not encourage a...
Read moreThis little bar / eatery is tucked a little way off the main road situated right on the beach itself. You are in the sea literally feet away from where you are relaxing with a cold beer or some typical Thai dishes. The menu is just right, offering those Thai classics you want to taste, cooked in an authentic way by Thai cooks. If you fancy something different on the menu you're covered as this bar also serves some Euro foods if you're feeling homesick. The fries are to die for and the homemade sausages are awesome. We spoke to Tony who had some freshly caught Grouper that day and went with his recommendation, the simple oven bake with herbs and freshness blew us away. We've been back so many times as we love vibe, the sea breeze, the stunning views, the menu choices...... it really was ine of our "go to" places where we knew the experience would be amazing every time.
You can also arrange local snorkeling and private trips on fisherman long boats here through Tony with little to no notice. The prices we were quoted were less than any others we...

First off, its location offers one of Samui's most superb views, stretching out over the sandy beach, from nearby Koh Mad Sum and Koh Tean and all the way across to the limestone karst hills of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Sublime on a sunny lunchtime or for cocktails and an early dinner.
On top of that, the talented Belgian chef seems to create magic with everything he touches. His preparation of whatever fresh fish he has on hand is outstanding, my partner says his seafood pasta is the best on the island (simple, but perfectly balanced flavours), and he can even make a roast chicken exciting! And his side dishes show great flair, as do his home made salad dressings and sauces. There is Thai food too if it takes your fancy, but we've not yet tried it. Prices are exceptionally reasonable for the quality (not to...
