Unfortunately this place does'nt pass the vibe check anymore.
We have been here as a family several times over the years and we have always loved it. It has felt relaxed and laid back in a way a reggae themed restaurant should, we've been here for live music, food and drinks. The food and drinks are still the same, good.
But this time we got a completely different vibe from the place. When we arrived Ginger thoroughly inspected our intire familys feet and acted as a drill sergeant while we washed them, telling us how to stand, not to spill any water while washing them etc, a long and degrading experience. Going in to the restaurant we notice there are so many prohibition signs, worse than in a museum.
This is forbidden, if you do this you are fined xxx bath per time, if your kid destroys this you owe us. Believe me, as a former restaurant owner, you are gonna lose a lot more if people aint feeling comfortable in the restaurant.
If you have a restaurant, very close to the beach, on a sand road, you gotta be a little chill about it, never have i ever experienced anything like this anywhere in thailand or anywhere else.
As an answer to Ginger's reply.
I understand the problem with wear and tear, every business has to calculate it, and clean and wash when things get dirty. And eventually replace.
When you visit another restaurant or shop do you usually have someone oversee and comment on every step during the washing of your every Family members feet? with
comments on how to stand, not to spill any water and approving when there is not a single grain of sand left etc?
Would you like that treatment as a welcome?
It is your business to run as you please offcourse, i just wanted to plant some food for thought as i really enjoyed previous visits and did'nt experience any of this back then.

Ā Ā Ā Read morei was excited to go check out this restaurant after reading all the good reviews but the vibes of this place were very off. me and my bf are both pescatarian and ordered a bowl with rice + veggies and pad thai and two smoothies. the owner and tattoo artist got our order wrong and dropped off on our table two chicken dishes after we explained we didnāt order that and that we donāt eat meat, he said the images of both plates on the menu look similar thatās why the confusion and seemed upset for seeing my smoothie glass on the restaurantās plastic menu (which i honestly didnāt notice). he grabbed it with his hands and repositioned it on the table. i thought that was a little rude and felt very uncomfortable and unwelcomed especially when the menu was made of plastic and it wasnāt going to be damaged by my glass being on top of it. he seemed a very grumpy negative person to me and iām only giving this place a 2 star because of the lady who was there (iām assuming his wife?)who was super friendly and treated...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGinger and Chan are without doubt the most welcoming and genuine hosts. The bar is a special place with a unique vibe that makes you want to never leave (the bar or the Island). The food is fresh, tasty, and made fresh to order. The cocktails are strong and first class too. A hidden gem of a bar in a hidden gem of a beach. I want to keep it a secret but also tell the world about this little slice of paradise. I canāt wait to come back and I promise you it will be worth your time to visit too. Just make sure you say hello and enjoy yourself. Thanks Ginger and Chan Siam šš¼ for a...
