In all my years of dining across various countries, I've never encountered such appalling customer service until my recent visit to Wing Hua Chinese Restaurant in Trinidad. While Trinidad is known for its occasional customer service issues, the experience I had with a particular staff member there was beyond disheartening.
Upon arriving with a friend and politely requesting a dine-in service from a Venezuelan lady at the counter, her response was visibly unpleasant, marked by a dismissive sigh. Despite this initial off-putting interaction, we proceeded and were promptly shown to our table. However, the discomfort escalated when we attempted to place our order.
When I approached another staff member, a blonde-haired Venezuelan, to inquire about placing our order, she relayed the message to the original attendant, who, in Spanish, I'm pretty sure made derogatory remark about me, referencing my race calling me "la negrata" not "la negra". Being fluent in Spanish, I understood the disrespectful term used, but I wasnt entirely sure given the loud noises at the entrance so I left it as that.
Despite feeling uncomfortable, we remained, given that we were both famished and hoping for a better experience. Regrettably, it only worsened. The same attendant responded condescendingly and rudely when asked about the ingredients in a dish, resorting to eye-rolling and dismissive gestures. It was an unexpected and unnecessary display of rudeness that left me in disbelief. Like this women blatantly rolled her eyes EXAGGERATELY multiple times until I said you don't have to be rude, I was just asking a dietary question.
As my friend placed their order, the level of hostility heightened, with the attendant glaring at me while taking the order. The entire interaction was tainted with an uncomfortable attitude, culminating in a dismissive query about drinks (I then managed to quickly snap a photo whilst pretending to read something on my phone, which I never do, but to warn people) and snatching the menus away brusquely.
Feeling extremely uncomfortable with the situation and uncertain about the handling of our food due to the rude behavior, about 20seconds later my friend and I decided to cancel our order to prevent the food starting being cooked. When attempting to explain this decision to the establishment's owner or manager, the same attendant aggressively approached putting her hands on her hips and adopting an intimidating stance.
Despite language barriers, I attempted to convey our unpleasant experience to the Chinese gentleman overseeing the place, determined to express the unacceptable treatment we received. it is unfortunate to receive a bad rating and review all because of this woman, especially when ive ordered take away numerous occasions and enjoyed the food and service. I never complain to management about staff as I would hate to jeopardise someone's employment, but this was beyond ridiculous and rude. I always treat everyone with respect, no matter if Venezuelan or not, but utmost disgusting behaviour...
Read moreEdinburgh/Chase Village Branch. The food here has progressively gotten worse. Tonight my shrimp had the intense saltiness of salt fish and my rice cold; not even room temperature or hot as it should be . To make it worse, when I got the bill I realized that they billed me for portions rather than a combo and $15 extra for added pepper! $15!!!!
Adding insult to injury, they have changed their dining policy where groups of 5 or more people MUST order portions only! No more combos for larger groups. What a way to ensure that you spend your maximum.
Usually if they've had a miss on something I ordered I would let it slide because they are good more times than bad. However, their billing, ordering and dining policy has made it indigestible. You've lost my...
Read moreNice place for dinner with loved ones. The only setback is that the waitress doesn't wait until you have finished eating when dining in, they give you the bill which to me it seems very rushed. I understand they have a huge influx of customers but that shouldn't be how they are treated regardless.
Update: Haven't dined in since the previous incident. Wing Hua food is usually hit or miss when I've done take away orders. They really need to work on providing quality food consistently.
In terms of their boba teas, this is also inconsistent. Wing Hua definitely need to invest in some training with regards to quality control for...
