I'm not sure if it was because it's a Sunday, but this was not what I expected at all. I arrived around midday to a crowd of people that had been already waiting for an hour - some more than that - and nobody there to attend to them. 15 minutes later, a man that may be the owner, cane out and advised that we needed to write our names and orders in a book, then wait for our orders. When asked about their offerings, he advised that he had fish but no lobster yet, and the wait time would be at least an hour for the fish and a further two hours for lobster. Suffice it to say, quite a few customers complained at that point. Having drove all the way from Santa Cruz, we decided to endure the wait and pass the time at the bar across the road. To our surprise, lobster and fish meals were also available at the bar (next door, on the same compound), and there were groups of people there that had the same idea in mind as we did, to pass the time there. Interestingly, two different groups told us they were there since 10AM. Given the possibility that our wait time would most likely be more than the hour we were told, we took a look at what was available there (the bar). Fish was being cooked, with lobsters waiting in trail. It looked and smelled good enough, plus it was slightly cheaper. My group (10 in total) discussed the option of eating there, and agreed to order there, rather than wait for Ducky's - by this time it was about 12:45 - and we cancelled the Ducky's order. Keep in mind, we ordered from Duckey's at 12:15. At 1:30 we received our orders and enjoyed our meals. Meanwhile, the two families we met at the bar, hadn't received their orders from Ducky's yet, although they ordered before us. They both, along with many of the folks across at Ducky's, chose to cancel their order with Ducky's and buy across the street. It's a good thing they did, because they all received their meals and ate, before those that decided to wait on Ducky's. For those that waited, I hope their meal was exceptional and worth the wait for them. But the meal we had was tasty enough, that in mind waiting for Ducky's could not have been justified. There's nothing that would justify driving 2 hours, then waiting a further 2 to 3 hours after ordering, for a meal. Will I go back someday to try Ducky's? No... at least not a planned trip. If I happen to be in the area, I'd probably give it a try. I don't even know why I gave a one star rating. I never ate at the place and the experience was awful. I have added photos of the lobster, but forgot to take pics of the fish meals.

Firstly... the guy really did try customer service wise, he was extremly pleasant and enthusiastic. On arriving we wrote our names and asked him how long he said 25 mins we got there 12:25 we were served at 1:45 lol... np cool we went over to his spot to eat as we were by the bar drinking!! Over by kewrins. Now i cook often and by the look of things its grinded pimentoes, chadon beni and chive thats not sufficient to roadt fish lol so it was flavorless!! Tasteless you have to add pepper, ketxhup, salt and some special sauce to it for it to even tatste good/ok The ambience was very dirty, lots of flies everywhere which is expected as it is fish, though the place was smelling very fishyyyy the fish itself was well cleaned and limed! You can see the business is doing well as theyre building a very nice lavish house in the back which is great, but invest in better seating arrangement and areas for persons to wash and clean up themselves. Find some other means of sanitization to rid of some of the flies it wasnt cool trying to eat and fighting them off lol. Also maybe yall can marinade the fish in some local green seasoning on the bright side its healthy and fulling its 10:43 and ive not eaten anything since!! Im still filled!! Attached are some pics lol .... id say not worth the hype yall can try the people by the bar you get variety for your money sides as well!!

Duckys is the place to go to for lobster in Trinidad! He serves freshly caught lobster and fish daily and prepares them right in front of you on a huge grill! A little pricey (lobster is hardly ever the cheapest option on any menu!), it's still very affordable. The lobsters come in different weights so you get to select the one that suits your pocket. It comes served with a really lovely sauce and cooked to perfection! Duckys isn't the "traditional" restaurant set up....the cooking area is outdoors, based under a shed with seating placed under a tent. However, this works really. It allows the ever friendly Ducky to converse with his patrons while the food is being prepared. It also allows for socialisation with other customers (should you wish to do so!). If you're a lobster/fish lover, Duckys is definitely worth the visit. Be warned...this place is hugely popular and gets busy quite quickly! It's best to arrive quite early or you could face a wait.

He would get 5stars but his banter is not always appealing to everyone who shops his establishment. Very basic issue for me, and let me start by saying I was having a bad day before I got to Ducky's. So a little bit is on me too. When I got there Ducky was his cheerful self and greeted my nieces and I with his fast talking, rapping-type banter. He was tenting to a couple, so I asked him for my niece to use the bathroom and he obliged. When she and I got back, I asked him for a small fish plate because we had just eaten and was not hungry for 3 full means. He packed me a small which consised of 2 fish's that protruded beyond the carryout box. I asked him could he break the head and the tale in order for both fishes to fit in the box. He belted out with, "we doh break fish here". I was a bit taken back by that comment, but was willing to carry my fish plate with either of its ends exposed. As I was applying my sauce, the couple who we met there when first arrived came back from across the street bar where they went to for drinks. Ducky packed their plate and infront ofe he broke the fish head to fit in the plate. I told he "why did you just told me you don't break fish here, but here you are moments after breaking another customer's fish. I went on to say if the is some form of banter or sarcasm he should at least close the loop and say he was joking. He then offered to break the fish. At the point I was a bit upset and used his spatula to do it myself.

I like Ducky and I think he is doing an amazing job with the food he provides. He just need to read his customer better. And I would say If you ready this Ducky. Sorry for...

I'm really happy for those of you who had this experience as one for the archives,.............however, the following is my experience two days ago (Fri 6th).

We were next in line to be served after a short wait, as some previous customers were served and dismissed. The lobster was selected, weighed, price assigned and name-tagged to us. I asked Ducky what is the waiting time to which he responded 30 minutes. I told him we were going directly across the road to the bar to kill time. 50 minutes had passed as we saw customers come in and out. He crossed the road to the bar we were in and my wife inquired about the lobster to which he replied: "No baby, it eh finish yet!" 25 minutes passed and we crossed the road and asked what is the status to which he replied: "They now 'tinging' it!" A shell-shocked and disbelieving me asked him in an annoyed tone: "What is 'tinging'? What 'tinging' mean? Is ah hour and 15 minutes now we select de lobster and tag it and yuh say half hour!" Mind you, lobster STILL eh start to see fire yet eh! Wifey told him that we can't wait for it any more because we have a long drive to pick up our kid. Ducky's only answer was: "Daiz alright darlin!" No explanation! No apology!

So maybe Ducky has some of the Culinary skills defined, but like he probably missed all of the Ethics/Respect/Customer-Service modules in his Course.

Once again, lucky to those of you who had a flawless experience especially after driving close to 2.5...
