A Masterclass in Deception: The Worst Sushi "Experience" on Planet Earth
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE 4.7 RATING. This is a meticulously crafted facade, a digital illusion paid for by a business that preys on the unsuspecting. My visit to Kayu Sushi in Jardins de Carthage was not merely a bad meal; it was a shocking spectacle of greed, unprofessionalism, and breathtakingly low standards that I feel compelled to warn the entire world about.
Let's start with the fraudulent Google Maps rating. A 4.7? It is an absolute farce. It is clear as day that the management here employs a network of hackers, pays for fake positive reviews, and sponsors misleading photos to lure in customers. This review is an attempt to bring a sliver of truth to their page.
The "Food": A Health Hazard in Disguise
Forget everything you know about fresh, delicate sushi. Kayu Sushi operates on a different, more sinister principle.
· The "Crab" Scam: Do not expect to find tuna, avocado, or any mark of quality. Their staple is a revolting, industrially processed crab stick of such low quality that I would genuinely fear for my health after consuming it. This isn't an opinion; health professionals have consistently warned against the artificial additives and questionable origins of such products. · The Nigiri of Shame: We ordered salmon nigiri, the most basic test of a sushi restaurant's integrity. What we were served was nothing short of an insult. It was not fresh salmon. It was a discolored, sad piece of fish that had the unmistakable look and smell of being salvaged from the leftovers—or worse, the garbage. The texture was slimy, the taste was rancid. It was, without hyperbole, disgusting.
The "Team": An Unprofessional, Confrontational Gang
The horror doesn't stop at the kitchen. The entire operation, from the person taking the order to the individual who finally served us, was characterized by a stunning lack of professionalism.
· The Manager: The individual in charge set the tone: impolite, dismissive, and oozing with greed. There was no concern for customer satisfaction, only the act of extracting money. · The Final Straw: Disgusted and unable to eat the garbage presented to us, we chose to leave. This simple act of rejecting their unacceptable food triggered a mob-like response. The entire team—chefs, servers, and the terrible manager—poured out of the restaurant and came after us like a gang, a truly intimidating and unbelievable scene. This is not a restaurant; it's a scam operation with a dining room.
Conclusion: A Blight on the Culinary Landscape
Kayu Sushi is a cheat. They are greedy, impolite, and serve food that is unequivocally unhealthy. They manipulate their online presence to trap customers and respond to criticism with aggression instead of apology.
I do not simply not recommend this place; I implore you to avoid it at all costs. Your health and your dignity are worth more than what this establishment offers. I am left with no choice but to believe this restaurant needs to be investigated and closed down before more people are swindled—or worse, become ill.
Save your money, save your appetite, and save yourself the confrontation. Go literally...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place but unfortunately, our visit to Sushi Ka Yu was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Tunis for a Sushi place. From the moment we walked in, things felt off.
There was no welcoming at all, just busy. We were a group of three and were given a small table clearly meant for two. When we politely asked for a larger table, they immediately told us we’d have to wait another 30 minutes, even though we had already waited 30 minutes to be seated. It felt more like a punishment than anything else. This place has tables for 2 meant for 3 and because of people waiting it is difficult to manage and also it is better for the business but not for the customer. And if you're willing to do so then some basics must follow.
The place seemed understaffed and chaotic just three people managing everything: taking orders, cleaning tables, and handling payments. They were taking orders from people who arrived after us, and it felt like there was no system or organization at all.
The hygiene was honestly unacceptable. The menus, bottles of condiments, table, and even the cups were sticky. They wete not cleaned anything properly. There was no air circulation, and the AC wasn’t strong enough for the space so much that we were sweating the entire time.
They took our order but didn’t set the table for the third person, didn’t offer water or drinks, and didn’t even bring plates. The miso soup was carried by hand with the thumb almost inside the bowl, with no tray or plate underneath and it was the worst miso I’ve ever had: watery, flavorless, and just unpleasant. They even served the third soup several minutes later in the same unhygienic way.
The sushi came with no wasabi, no ginger, and no explanation. They just dropped three chopsticks on the table like it was a takeaway stall. I had to ask for everything, and when the wasabi came, it was so weak it didn’t even taste like wasabi. They didn’t bother clearing empty bowls or bringing fresh plates either.
Overall, the place felt sloppy, unclean, and unprofessional. I really wanted to like it, but this was just not acceptable. Hopefully they can take the feedback seriously and improve, because at this point I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreGood points: . The rice and noodle dishes tasted nice . The wasabi and ginger provided with the sushi was great quality . Nice decor
Bad . Very slow service - we waited approximately 1 hour for all of our food to arrive. . For a table of 5, they didn't bring our food all at once. It was 1 dish at a time, with approximately 5 minutes between each... So we had to sit there waiting for everybody's food to arrive; meaning the food went cold. 3 of the dishes we ordered were the same, so can't quite understand why they wouldn't be able to be made together and come out at the same time. . Poor selection of drinks - not even any Japanese/asian options. Just cans of fizzy drinks (e.g. Coke) and water. . Not the most authentic place we've been to in terms of menu, they didn't even have unagi, where other places in Tunis do. . No dessert options on the menu. . Staff were a little unorganised, we had a table of 5, but they only had 4 cups and 4 sets of chopsticks on the table, we had to...
