Gunaydin Galataport, located within the iconic Galataport development in Istanbul, is a dining destination that offers a memorable culinary experience. I am an experienced local guide feel free to see my other reviews. Let me first say that expectation and market segmentation matters a lot. To me, prices do not necessarily seem to be high for a fine dining experience and compare to the counterpart restaurants in the US and Europa. It might be a little higher for local currency earners.

With that said, I wish to see a pleasant experience matching the ticket and dining expectation.

There are several things wrong with this place and I hope that the owner/upper management take notice to fix them.

1- Front staff and who appears to be a chief waitress (the man in suits) do not behave appropriately. They are not kind enough. They don’t how how to handle basic request I.e. inquiring available seating nearby the sea front.

2- We ordered t-bone and entrecôte steak they both look smaller in size/portion when compared to counterpart restaurants.

3- t-bone ordered to be cook medium-well but arrived as medium at best.

4-waitress appear to spill meat juices from plates to table. A small detail but not appropriate. The waitresses was not look as sharp as they suppose to be for a newly opened fine dining restaurant.

5- Bottoms of Tea glasses were cracked. (2 out of 3 arrived as cracked) again not appropriate and acceptable and showing lack of attention to the details and overall experience.

6- I’ve requested to recook the t-bone and pack it to go alongside the other leftover Food. They accepted the request but guess what! They forget the bring my tbone back. I have paid 490tl (~$30) for a undercook steak and requested to recook a half eaten steak that never arrived back to me. They practically wasted half a portion of a fine steak for which I paid the full price. It sound like a joke but it is not!

Overall my expectation of Gunaydin was totally mismatched by miserable service experience. I am not planing going back to any Gunaydin restaurant for a long time.

PS-1: We paid around 1200 tl (~$70) for 2 main course and a coffee. The food include a couple of maza, a t bone and an entrecôte (a thin rib steak).

PS-2: If a Gunaydin personal wanted to reach out to me for further communication in an attempt to recover a failed service experience I’d be happy to...

Lovely venue, friendly service on arrival, good quality meat and generally good food. Service however took a turn for the worst when we asked for the cheque, and a 10% tip was asked for. Rude in itself. But we asked to tip on card with the rest of the bill as we’d intended to tip anyway, but were told that tips are cash only. We were only carrying about 5% of the bill in cash due to flying home tomorrow. We were then stood over and waited for to pay the cash tip rather than just letting us finish our meal and tip what we wanted in the cash/bill envelope. We were then approached and asked what the problem was when we didn’t tip. We told the staff that their attitude was rude, and that we offered to pay the tip on card earlier. We were then told that staff didn’t get any card tips and they all went to the restaurant. I suspect that the staff are forcing their own tips due to that, but it’s not acceptable practice in such a reputable chain. We just stood up and left, giving the staff concerned a dirty look, but many customers could feel intimidated by this. A disappointing end to a nice meal, and clearly we are not alone based on the comments here.

Sadly we won’t return due to this, and will discuss it with the chain owner as this simply should not...
