My family and I were on an off-from-school-and-work tour within the Emirates and made a stop over at the Last Exit (Dubai bound). Normally, on similar occasions, I bring my DSLR camera to capture the beautiful moments and experiences. However, we were reprimanded by the on-duty security guards not just once but twice about the rules on the use of devices like cameras. Both security guards have the same argument that cameras like DSLRs are not allowed within the area but the usage of mobile cameras are permitted - which left myself, my wife, and my 11-yr old son confused.

To make the story short, we've had prolonged exchanges of narratives to a point that it ruined the wonderful moment that we should have enjoyed and deserved. Nonetheless, I took a photo of the Last Exit's policy (attached herein) about the camera usage. Point #12 says, "No professional photoshoot without permission". Apparently, I neither used my DSLR camera commercially (collecting professional fees in exchange of service) nor as a professional photographer with a client. Instead, I was with my family enjoying our time off from work and school, and capturing memorable moments through my Canon camera. During our intense argument and with our naked eye, the second guard was so unprofessional to a point that she was laughing at ourselves (myself and my wife) and even threatening us to call her Supervisor to invalidate ourselves about the issue. In addition, Policy #12 is straightforward and self-explanatory.

I was in a position to defend myself and my family about the whimsical treatment, somehow racial profiling us, and the misconception about the policy. These human resources need to be trained and shall periodically undergo enterprise competences.

On the last note, we are so proud of ourselves for having the privilege to live and work in Dubai (UAE in general) and have considered it as our second home.
