Well we have been here loads of times and had lovely food but today terrible service. Waited 40 mins for cold mash, gravy with the pie which they apologised and took away no further response. My cajun chicken was on greasy rice not like usual not nice. No response from 4 staff noone on bar. Eventually manager said I've taken meals off. Made no attempts to understand what was wrong with chicken & when highlighted no one had said what was happening with pie meal. His response was I wasn't dealing with that. I left saying I will take my business where it is wanted. Prices increased significantly for smaller portion in respect of the chicken dish. Won't rush to return. I see manager said we were making a scene and angry I would love to know how we are supposed angry no one came to us what a way to justify not dealing with the issue. How are we supposed to know what they were offering as a resolution as we assumed they were going to heat the mash potato. I appreciate price increase but it remains reduced portion. We were not rude in any way but didn't expect to be left sitting there with one. Meal just gone. You never offered to recook meals or even sort out mash. We had been regular dinners here prior and never had a complaint but given they did not even try initially to offer a resolution I won't return. I have to highlight the manager said what do you want me to do. Then followed us outside trying to apologise but give he said " well that's how dish is so if you donnt like it what do you want me to is an unusual response when we had highlighted this was my usual go to meal. Last comment all two customers and the member of staff that said OK to my pie and took his plate as cold and did not return. I never insisted you recook meal. You did not even broach us we sat there for awhile wondering what was happening I even tried to knock on the kitchen door to get a response and you all seemed to be in there. Your response is an utter insult and not once have you even tried to see it from the customers just sat there. You never mentioned the fact of the 2 soft drinks otherwise we would have addressed this at the time. I think you miss the point I started review well and left previous good reviews to get...
Read moreWe recently visited The Old Black Horse at Mapperly, and it was absolutely fantastic, with excellent service and a lovely feel to the place.
This is a truly stunning country pub, delivering tasty, high quality food. It was our first time here for dining, and we had reserved a table in the dog friendly garden room for a birthday meal. If you would prefer to eat away from dogs (why would you though?) the restaurant dining area itself doesn't allow our four legged friends inside.
The pub itself is really beautifully presented with traditional features, and the staff were so incredibly friendly and polite. We felt very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed some lovely cider and delicious cold beer. The house wine was great too.
The food was amazing, with generous portions that were both delicious and satisfying, really reflecting high quality. We even treated ourselves to a delicious griddle cookie for desert, which was lovely.
The outdoor spaces are a real highlight. The beautiful, well kept garden is full of stunning flowers, creating a really picturesque, relaxed setting. There are plenty of seating areas outside, including a very comfortable smoking area with outdoor sofas!
We were particularly impressed by how incredibly dog friendly it is, especially with the pub including a dining area where our furry friends are truly welcome. Our tiny terror loved it!
Will we go back? Most definitely! A huge thank you to the wonderful staff for such a truly...
Read moreWe visit once every few months, usually for a carvery which is served on a Wednesday and Sunday. Booking is definitely advisable, especially if you are taking dogs to ensure a suitable table is available. We had a second sitting today, starting at 1.30pm. There are various size options available - small, medium and large. One of our party had the small meal which was still pretty big with two slices of meat. There were four meats to choose from: beef, turkey, pork and gammon. Between us we tried them all and they were all very tender. There was a good choice of vegetables - carrots, red cabbage, peas, roast parsnip, mashed potato, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts. There were plenty of trimmings too: Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball and sausage. Sadly there were no gluten free alternatives but there was gluten free gravy available. We all enjoyed our lunch, and a variety of drinks - there is always a good choice of ales, including Old Speckled Hen, Abbot Ale and a couple of others on draught. This time we were too full for dessert. The atmosphere is nice and friendly and there were lots of staff members on hand for answering queries etc. The only 'downside' is the small car park but more parking can be found within the village. It's also a lovely location to have lunch and take a walk up to Shipley Hall. Nice pub, and we...
